I'd like to shift the trunk backwards about one or two inches on my (new-to-me) Interstate to give my wife more comfort room. She's used to riding on our Valk Standard with an aftermarket seat and wide passenger backrest, which actually gives her more room than on the Interstate. I have the same passenger seat on the I/S that I had on the Standard, but the backrest on the Standard sets a little further back than the backrest on the trunk of the I/S.

Has anybody repositioned the I/S trunk rearward a couple of inches? If so, how did you do it?

You would need to fabricate your own adapter plate/mounting brackets.  I've wanted to do the exact opposite - completely remove the passenger seat and shift the trunk UP to make a one-seater I/S with a nice backrest (with speakers).

I don't know who owns this bike, but in theory you could reverse their design and accomplish your goal.  I also have not seen a commercially available product which lets you relocate the trunk.  (NOTE:  possible $$$ maker for you fabricating types - I get 10% for the suggestion  Roll Eyes)  Notice what appears to be custom mounting brackets under the trunk.

I bet you are right.  When I saved the picture, it was called "small_matt_bike.jpg".

Anybody know how to contact "Matt"?  Does he post/lurk here?  Maybe he could chime in with some useful information.

iv'e done exactly what your refering too..iv'e shifted my trunk back 3 inches..removed the trunk and measured for all holes then went to a metal fab shop and had them make a plate. the holes drilled for the trunk to sit on the plate were drilled and tapped for the original bolts then the holes where the plate bolts to the trunk frame were elongigated slots that when i bolted it donw i could move it 1/4 to 3 inches. all the electrical and speakers had plenty of room for the move. as far as the front bracket where the bolt goes in under the passenger backrest i just left it alone she says she does'nt feel it there..if you want pictures i'm sure i could take some..but without removing the trunk your not going to see the whole bracket..

Boz - doesn't hurt to go to your profile and put your "where-abouts" under your name. Sometimes people near to you can response and help out.

I dont know of any interstates near me, or I'd look at what it would take to fab one up. I did them on just about all my Wings.

Shouldnt be too difficult. Mine, the hardest part was getting them powdercoated!

Did that on my 1200 Wing several years ago. No recollection of where I purchased the parts, but it was a store bought item. Moved the trunk back a couple inches to make more room for the wifeunit to stretch out. Valk = much more room for co-rider.
