This is going out to our motorcycle and car friends.

The Hoover Dam by pass bridge is scheduled to be completed sometime in November 2010.  Once it is open you will no longer be able to drive across the Hoover Dam.  This may be your last opportunity to do so.

Remember the next few months will be your last opportunity to ride/drive across the Hoover Dam structure so if you have a video camera now is your chance to tape a final trip across this historic dam before this road is closed to the general public for good.

My company has been involved in some of the engineering work associated with the new by pass bridge and through the guys working on that project I have learned that the Arizona checkpoint has now been relocated closer to the dam.  I don’t know when that happened but the last time I did this run it was about 9 miles South East of the dam.

Those of you who lived here before the Roosevelt dam was rebuilt might remember driving across that dam structure.  The road across that dam is now closed and the dam structure has been extended upward to provide extra capacity for the lake. If you crossed that dam before it was closed, all you have are the memories and possibly some photo’s.

You may want to inform your friends about the closing date which should be sometime early November and give them the opportunity to take a final trip across the dam.

Sharon and I will be escorting a few local riders on a trip sometime in October but I thought I would pass this info along to anyone who might want to take a final trip across.

I have been across the dam several times in a tractor trailer over the years.  Quite a sight and fun to navigate in a big truck.  I have also taken the dam tour while I was in Vegas many years ago.  The dam is one of the most amazing dam things I have ever seen.  Everyone should go there at least once.

What are they going to do with the visitors center?  Will the parking be open on both sides of the dam and foot traffic allowed on the dam?

My sources indicate the visitor center on the West side of the dam will be open but that is a preliminary decision.  Not sure if any foot traffic will be allowed on the dam.
