Anyone tried the sheepskin seat cover. Does it help keep the Butt cool? Need some idea without changing seats for long rides.

I like my sheepskin and I've used a bead seat cover successsfully.  I've got a friend who swears by Airhawks.  Of the three the bead seat cover is the least expensive.

A few years back me and my buddy left Kentucky with our wife's on back. It was the year the heat wave was bad. It was around 105 degrees. I was the only one with sheepskin and the only one not to get monkey butt. Does great summer and winter. I don't leave home without mine on a long distance trip.

I've used a sheepskin many times on long rides and have never gotten monkey butt....can't swear it's the sheepskin that keeps it away....might be that a jackass just can't get monkey's butt.... 2funny

I wear two layers of SmartWool boxer briefs with AntiMonkey Butt Powder on long rides.  Probably not practical for daily use but on my 5K July round trip ride back to South Dakota it worked very well.

Bought a sheepskin at Ikea for 39.95. Cut and velcro'd a slot for the Utopia backrest support and just tuck the front under the seat front of my 99 I/S. 2000 miles each way to Toronto and back, 9-15 hours a day for 4 days, dry and comfy. Looks pretty good, too.

Hi PhredValk,

Would you have a picture of your set-up? (sorry if I am hi-jacking this thread). I'm looking to do that to my 2001 I/S.  Embarrassed

Thanks!

That is what I'm thinking of doing. I have the I/S also. Have found that you have to get two seperate covers since the seat has a step up. One for driver and one pass. Not sure how true the fit is also. (Cut as seat is shaped) I would rather have it that way as just a pc. thrown over hanging off the sides etc.  Is it cut as seat is formed?? Thanks for the replies !!

I've been using a half of a sheepskin pelt. I trimmed it to the shape of the seat but it just sits there, no straps. I think it's easier to throw it in a saddlebag if it's not attached. When it wears out I still have the other half.
It's a big improvement in summer and winter.

I believe this is it. I'm not sure I understand the current pricing. You might want to discuss that with them. Some prefer the sheared sheepskin, the uncut looks kind of wild and woolly.

I looked at Alaska Leather for sheepskin covers and it seemed to me that none of their motorcycle seat covers were cut to really fit the seat. They were just pieces in a triangle kind of shape big enough, or too big, to maybe cover the seat. I swapped email with them and was told that basically I was correct. Several folks here have said that they are ok with this method. But I didn't want something just laying, or hanging, on the seat so I kept looking.

I found the following linked site and ordered from them after talking at length on the phone with the guy. Their covers are more expensive but they are custom tailored to the dimensions of the seat, both front and back. I have my order on hold right now because I'm switching from a Corbin seat to an Ultimate and will have the covers made for the Ultimate. So, no, I don't have the covers and can't say a word about the quality yet. I don't mind paying more for custom covers any more than all of us who pay hundreds of dollars for chrome pieces to make our bikes look good. YMMV

The alaska leather sheepskin is first quality and fits the Valkyrie seat very well. I started using one this spring and absoultely love the thing. They had some in clearance that had anti-skid stuff on the bottom of them going for $40 that I bought. Also, coupon code DEADSHEEP gets you something like 10% off.

I have an Alaskan Leather full pelt for my IS with an Ultimate seat. The pelt amply covers rider and pillion areas with pelt to spare. I don't see any reason for spending extra for straps as they're simply not needed. I love it.

Beads work best for me.  I have tried different makers of sheepskin but no where near the comfort of the beads.

The bigger size, I think $69.95, would cover both seats.
