Hello!  I'm a new member, though Ive been a guest a few times, and need help with a Dyna3000 purchased on E-Bay.  It was listed as used, but in working condition, but when I installed it on my 2003 Valkyrie Std. it wouldn't even start.  I finally got it to run but for no more that 4-5 seconds.  I contacted the seller and was assured that it was from a working Valk, and she thought that maybe something on my bike was messing things up.  I assured her that my bike was pretty much stock, except for cosmetics.  Contacted Dynatek and was told that these units are sealed and non-repairable and that sometimes a "hot" coil can mess them up.  Seller and I agreed that maybe I should find someone else with a Valk and if it works on their Valk then something was wrong with mine.  If it didn't work then it was a DOA unit.  Then I researched problems with these units online and found out that using Lamonster's 6degree trigger wheel WILL keep these units from working correctly (something with the rounded teeth) and I forgot that I have this trigger wheel installed.  It always worked great with the stock ECM so I didn't even think about it.  Today I removed the 6degree wheel and re-installed the stock wheel and the bike started with the factory ECM, but barely with the Dyna3000 and idled like crap and kept stalling, etc.  HELP!! Anybody have any ideas?  Is there anybody who lives close to Mt. Airy, MD who has a Valk and can let me try the Dyna300 on their bike for a couple of minutes?  It only takes a couple of minutes to install.  Help!!

Thanks,

If you have an aftermarket trigger wheel then your Dyna may not work.  Mine did not with a 6 degree trigger wheel.  I put the stock wheel back in and it works fine.

the failure rate of the D3000 is high. they always work the 2nd or 3rd time for sure...gotta keep replacing them. stock ecm is SOOOOO much more reliable...and the 6 degree wheel doesnt make much of a difference except at WOT. 4 degree is best. all ya need. I thought about it but, realized I dont need the aggrivation of it so, I stick with what works. I use dyna coils tho. get 35000 volts outa them to fire the iridium plugs. thats all you gotta do. just my opinion....

First hello and welcome to the club, cooldude  next this is a technical question and as such you should go to the tech board with it. But since your new  Grin If you do a search for Dyna you will have to take some time reading all the posts, alot of info. The problem with the Dyna unit is exactly what you have experienced they work with some bikes and not with others. The range of problems is wide from missing at 2500 rpm to not running to stopping occasionally. I think you were taken though I would offer to send it back to get my money back and see if they will do it. If you hook the thing up there is a led on the end that flashes when the cylinder should fire if that's not happening then its not seeing the pickup. Some have had issues with this there is no adjustment on the pickups but 10 to 15 thousands for a air gap is about right. Try also a different setting to and also last make sure that the contacts on the plug are making good contact.

I have an '03 with a Dyna3000.  Put it on and it ran great.  Went all the way to Michigan and back (almost) to within 50 miles of home, and it quit.  Started it up, and it ran as if it was starving for fuel.  Drove it on towards the house, and by the time I got there it was running pretty much OK.  Still on, and still running.  We think maybe the Texas heat got to it and caused some intermittent problem.  But as I was told..."always keep your OEM ICM in your saddlebag".  Hmmm, on an '03 you'll need to keep it somewhere else...  duct taped to the inside of the side cover maybe?  You may be one of the few who has a bike on which it just isn't going to work.   If you can find an Interstate ICM, you'll get 2 degrees advance over Standard's ICM. Good luck.   GJ

Thanks for all of your quick replies everyone!
Chillerman, I REALLY thought that putting my stock wheel back in would get the Dyna working.  I was real shocked when it STILL didn't work.
It sounds like a lot of people have had problems with these units.  Especially the original model like I have, not the "D" version.  I think that I still need to try it on another Valk to be sure that it's DOA and hopefully get my money back.  If it works on another Valk then I don't think that the seller will refund my money so I'll probably just re-sell it and explain in the ad that it might not work on all models.  What a PITA.  I sure wish that they still made or could repair these or some other company did.
Thanks,
TheGrossman
PS  Next time I'll post on the tech board!!

I had one go tits up a few years ago after buying ot from Doc Moose.  I sent it back to Dynatek, they replaced it, upgraded it, and I have been trouble free for 6 years since.  Not even a flutter.  I still carry the stock ICM around though.

Dyna 3k is awesome WHEN it works. I am on my second unit. The first would act like my bike was loosing cylinders (heat related?). I would shut her down and restart and all was good. I put the stock unit back in and it ran  nice but stock without soul. I almost sold the bike. I bought a replacement Dyna and  she came back to life. I keep the stock ECM in the bag just in case.

I would meet you half way somewhere if you wanna try plugging mine into yours and seee how it goes. cooldude

Shortleg, I live just a couple miles north of Mt. Airy, up 27, right on Watersville Rd. in the Nottingham development.

Tonysax, Thanks!! But give me a few days to try and find someone a little closer.  If not, I'll get back with you.

After talking to Dynatek, it sounds like they can't do anything for Valkyrie owners anymore.  If someone's Dyna3000 dies then that's it.

Thanks to all,
