Probably.................  It has been known to happen.

OR, they tossed a used condom out the window.

That will get that type of citation also.

Whoa Grasshopper, the reporter doesn't know sheet about the Rally or the accident.   They just pick up items to fill the page.

I didn't write it, I only posted it.

Of the four listed, three fault of the motorcyclist, and the fourth, fishtailing on highway, not sure about.  Not the usual, car ran over the mc, did not see, etc.

The fishtailing one, I think is the one they said he had a rear tire go flat rather rapidly from a bald spot.....

The similarity I see in several of those accidental deaths is the not wearing a helmet...I'm just saying...

How do we know from the story whether a helmet would of saved a life?

I've been on accidents where they had severe internal stomach injuries.   Also a severe laceration and they died from a loss of blood before someone could get to the scene.

Now, how is a helmet going to help those injuries?   It's not, but it will be reported as no helmet.

Usually helmet usage or non-usage doesn't have a thing to do with the way the story is written, BUT, people read it as if the helmet would have saved a life, then that gets the people thinking again and the next thing ya know there is a helmet requirement in your state.

I'm not against wearing a helmet, as 99.9% of the time I wear one.    After many years as a requirement in my job, you kind of get used to it.

Here in Indiana motorcycle accident news reports almost always mention whether the rider was wearing a helmet, even though we don't have a helmet law for adults. The news also generally mentions whether a seat belt was in use in car accidents.  In car rollovers it's almost always mentioned.

Technically, it shouldn't be mentioned whether a helmet was worn since it's not illegal to go without one.  Maybe just a case where the news media is biased against riders.

I agree with RJ, you don't know whether a helmet would've prevented injury or saved a life just from reading a news report.

I passed one on 87 "needles" not sure the outcome. :-/ I was going to stop but I had limited medical supplies on my bike, and I thought about using my "spot" but there was people on cell phones already so I knew they had service.
there was also 4 killed when a drunk in a pickup got them Sad  (or so I heard at the rally)  with record numbers there this year lots of people.

How about just not being a  " DUMBASS" when Bikes get together. For some reason we tend to show off and pay the price. I`m glad I learned that a 100 years ago... I have been on several rides this year in Kentucky and have not seen any dumbass riders on our rides.  Wink Don`t ride above your skilles or your brain matter,, or what ever that means.  tickedoff

I agree. If you are going to quote 'no helmet' you should report if it was a head injury or not. Also, why are there only Harleys and motorcycles? Can't they tell a Goldwing from a Ninja?

It must be that Harley's ain't Motorcycles.

If you ride a Harley you are instantly recognized.

Any other V-Twin is merely a Harley Clone.

So ride a Valkyrie and get noticed as something other than a Harley Clone.

103 years ago they may have said that Indian Motorcycles were clones of Harley's

but then again which one started business first?

Could be the other way around.

Ride on Valkyrie guys and live to ride not to look at what you ride, like the posers.

Sorry to hear about all those that died at Sturgis, but some even if they knew they might die

would have still attended, like a moth to a flame.

RJ, love your response to the helmet thing.  cooldude Cause your right. Seen it also.

Amount of riders has nothing to do with deaths. Last year, shy of 400,000 bikers (loosely) there were no deaths in the 4 counties around Sturgis. 1st time in years. Sure your gonna have accidents but dont most rallies, including IZ?
