I see that you say all the hoses are good bud did you check the caps on the intakes?  Sometimes these develop small cracks that let air in and cause popping.  Just a thought.....

That is a tough one.

Could be fuel or ignition related, based upon your description. Assuming that the pooping is in the exhaust??

If it stays bad above 5000 rpm would suspect  electricial - coil/sparkplug.

Need to find a way to eliminate some possibilities.

I've gotten bad gas twice, both times at BP stations. The last time I got horrible popping at idle on the right side of bike. Sounded like a popcorn machine. I ran two more tanks of gas through it with very little, maybe no improvement. 3/4 can of Sea Foam with the next tank full fixed the problem. I've put at least 3000 miles on it since then with no recurrence. I know your popping is at higher RPM but it's a cheap thing to try before doing any major work. You might also check the boots on your intakes which cover the carb balance ports.

You might also check the starter relay for bad contacts where it plugs in and for corroded contacts where the fuse plugs into the top of the relay. This caused my bike to run bad before it started dying when I would come to a stop.

Please let us know what finally fixes it.

And what is the throttle setting when all this popping is happening?

OK based on you last info:

The last time I saw a steady state miss at RPM, it turned out to be  a throttle linkage bushing on 1 carb linkage that had a flat spot on it. This one came from the factory that way because it was done during assembly.

Your problem has not always been there, has it??l

Could be a bad or loose spark plug.

OK based on that sounds electrical. (same rpm different throttle openings)

Start by switching spark plugs side to side to see if it follows plugs.

If not plugs than test plug wires, it is not the coil since 1 side is ok.

If still nothing try:
Run it up to failure, cut clean, check plugs and exhaust temp on each cylinder on failing side.

Need to identify failing cylinder(s).

faulty rev limiter ??

reed valves ??

sounds like a good place to begin spark plugs, wires,

no problem hasn't always been there, started a few weeks ago.

trying to think if anything has changed since then but haven't changed anything.

i'll try the suggestions
thanks.

I'd suspect it' the gasoline you are purchasing!

Gas stations are not reliable and often pump gasoline that is contaminated and below octane.

You ought to get gas from a different station for a while.

Another thing I will suggest is to drain a little gas from each float bowl to insure the water that settles at the bottom of the float bowl is gone. It will also take any sediment that is residing there!

As a last resort I think some Techron or B-12, Seafoam, whatever should be used for a while.

i am fully aware what WOT stands for. you weren't listening to what i said. uglystupid2

i found the problem.

the intake runners were tight on both sides, but...............
the left side ones weren't seated ALL THE WAY on the back side  uglystupid2 uglystupid2(that's toward the middle for you ricky)  Evil

reseated them and it runs like a striped a$$ ape now.

thanks for all the suggestions,

and the mobil station, where i buy my gas, is a very high volume station. if they were selling inferior gas it wouldn't be as busy as it is.  IMHO.

or, he could have been dropped on his head at least once. Grin Grin
