Was coming home from Sturgis in a late night, gusty drenching rainstorm ;ast week and looked down and saw my Baker Air Wing on my right pod flapping in the wind.  It was pretty much bent backwards.  It had busted the top of the pod out and was hanging on to the two tabs of the faceplate that fit up inside the pod.  The other side is also cracked, but not busted out yet.  Been looking for a replacement pod, but no luck yet.  Anyone know where a good used one can be had or does anyone have one and willing to sell?

I would consider checking the Fiche with HDLParts.com or RonAyers.com and see which parts you actually need.  i did a quick check before posting this and it looks like the outer shell is about $170 each side.  They will come re-painted to match your bike's color.

My right side cracked in two places, I pulled it all apart used some 220 grit sandpaper and roughed up the underside.I then took some JB Weld and some screen wire and built up the underside of the  pod. Seem to be working alright so far. You can't see the cracks from the outside as  the bike is black . I used duct tape to keep the cracks closed tight while the JB Weld dried so none of it came thru the cracks.

Mine didn't crack...it actually busted out the area where it attaches and that piece is gone.

WOW.... Angry
This is the first I have heard of this problem....(2000, IS) I usalley install them in the fall and remove them in the Spring. Just to help with the cold air.( Last 2 years)
Guess I will not put them back on this year... Sad
Don't need that to happen.
I just wonder if the age of our plastic parts are the problem.

Great. I have plans to put mine on this weekend. Maybe I should remove the pods and put a few layers of glass on the inside to shore them up first? Maybe glass in some  guage steel just to be sure?

Here's a couple of pics of my pods and the damage caused by the Baker Air Wings.

This is a picture of my right pod.  It's the one that is totally busted out.

Here's a picture of my left pod.  You can see the cracks that have started around both mounting bolts.

I was talking with a guy at the VOAI ride this summer that had the same problem with cracking from the wings. He sold his Bakers after that. I'm guessing the extra leverage the airwings put on the plastic, particularly in strong winds, is too much for the pod to handle. They obviously weren't intended to have all that extra weight pulling on them.

If someone figures out how to reinforce the pod to prevent this, I'd be very interested in the process since there's no way I'm getting rid of my airwings.

I'm in the process of making some little brackets to bolt to the front bottom edge of the wing to catch in the air vents at the top of the  pod to restrict the movement and load of the wings when a gust of wind hits them and knocks them rearward. It looks pretty simple and will not allow the wing to stress the pods.

I've had them on my I/S for 9 years with only a very small crack on one side.  Nothing I am going to worry about.

I'm working on a little L-shaped bracket to attach to the lower bolt up by the front of the air scoop that will just fit into the front of the scoop to limit the rearward movement of the wing.

I put some on my bike and took them back off when I noticed it was going to damage the pods. It's ok, but I was 100% sure it was going to break something. So Now I have a set of bakers I don't need.
