After reading the link it would seem that whether a non-muslim may enter a mosque or not is more or less on a case by case basis.

And BTW: the link was interesting.

That's what I got out of it, too.  I've never been in a Mosque, so it was interesting to see what the answer was.

Yamamoto said he would not attack the U.S. mainland with troops because almost all citizens of the U.S. had guns or weapons of some sort.

Please read the part titled "Historical Humbug"

http://www.factcheck.org/2009/05/gun-control-in-australia/

Well, after having read that, I know I'll sleep better tonight knowing that Yamamoto never said any such thing!!! I also will not post online that the sun is shining until I run it past factcheck.

That is just the dumbest thing I have read in a loooonnnnggg time.  I am not in favor of gun control, but when someone has clearly done a considerable amount of research on a subject, there should be some credence attached.

Did you read the part about gun control or the part about Yamamoto or both? At any rate how do you quantify the amount of research done by these people? The person states he was not able to find a written record, does not mean it doesn't exist or that it was never said. Personally I don't care if it was said or not but I find it humorous that so many people point to a website to back up their claims as if to say this is the final word on a subject.
Anyhow just keep reading, and you'll get to learn mooooooore dumb stuff Wink.

Yes, I read it all.  At the bottom is a list of seven sources, and they are not from any news service.  They appear to be legit, but I can not say for sure.  The fact that he did research his topic is more than I can say for any number of comments made by some on this board.

I visited mosques all over Turkey.  Dress modestly, remove shoes, wash face and hands, and I only went in when prayers were not being said (not required, my preference).

Non-Muslims may not go into mosques in Mecca and Medina.... that's OK, I won't be visiting Saudi Arabia anytime soon.

The Aya (San) Sophia in Istanbul (Constantinople) is a spectacular sight to behold.  First Christian church under Rome (emperor Constantine), later an Ottoman mosque.  Many but not all signs of Christianity were defaced or removed.  The place is now more a museum under rehabilitation and not an active mosque.
