If it aint broke, don't fix it!

I am going to start a 5k to 6k mile trip in a few weeks and want to start out with a new front tire.  Currently running a BT021 rear, 160/R70-16, reversed, 42 psi, on the front.  I will have about 14-15 k on it by that time.  Do any of you Trike Riders out there have any experience with running a Bias Tire on the front wheel with Radials on the back?  I am mainly interested in any handling problems (I pretty well keep up with most folks in the twisties) and also mileage.  Mostly ride two up and loaded.  (about 1600 lbs)  Bias tires are quite a bit cheaper than radials, but I don't want to sacrifice safety/handling/mileage just to save a few bucks.  TIA Stan

bias ply is the only tire i will run on the front of a trike..ran a radial when it was first triked only because it had alot of miles left on the tread..went to bias the next tire change and never looked back..bias will handle the turns much better than a radial. iv'e run bridgestone battlelax and a dunlop bias..both are great tires.

What kind of tire mileage do you get out of which?  What pressure do you run?  Stan

the bias tires i have run..most of them give the about the same mileage..i think i average about 15,000 per front tire. as far as air pressure. i normally run anywhere from 40 to 42. now your going to take notice that after a couple thousand miles that your front tire is gonna be wore flat and be cupped. don't worry though..thats just the way front trike tires get after awhile.. if you don't have your front end raked..you'll notice some difference in steering going to a bias.. it will steer alittle easier...

Thanks.  I found a good price on a Michelin Macadam 50 Rear, same size as I am running now.  $60 delivered.  Thinking of getting two, in case the price goes up.  Stan

You have a 16 inch front tire?  Is it a Valkyrie?
