Cops arrive 10 or 15 minutes after an event to clean up the mess, hence the term "police the grounds" ... my protection arrives at something over 1000 feet per second ... thanks to Mr. Colt

Long live the second ammendment !!!

I have a gun in almost every room in my house, storage building, shed, car's, motorcyles, and ATV.  If you don't have immediate access to a gun you lose.

I carry a gun because it is my right to...and as a responsible citizen of my country and my community I wish to keep my friends and family safe from those that would do harm to them or those around us...guns are for law abiding citizens ... we need our laws to punish those that work outside of the law not punish those that carry legally ... I would rather be surrounded by law abiding citizens with guns then be held captive by crazed criminals and wait for the law enforcement to decide how to help...but hey thats just me......

In a free society. it is EVERYONE's duty and responsibility to resist crime and tyranny in a reasonable responsible manner.

Failure to do so is an abdication of those responsibilities and makes one unworthy of a free society.

One would thing that a serious member of any society should always have available the tools needed to perform the task required.

If you are unwilling to meet those responsibilities please exit, so the rest of us will not be burdened with the responsibility of defending you sorry socialistic a$$.

If you are offended by this post - you are probably part of the problem and not the solution.

I don't believe in guns.  my mistake should have been " in the term guns"
I do believe in PFPDs  (Personal Family Protection Devices), this encompasses many things

so if somebody ask me, do I own guns?, like the doctors making a data base for the health insurance companies which is a back door data base for congress, I can honestly say NO to Guns.
friends don't let friends have guns.  Smiley

in this day and age, the least they know about you the better. I have read that crimmals target peoples homes when they are not home who own guns i.e., NRA window stickers, other gun bumper stickers etc., and steal the guns from the home.

I carry everywhere.  cooldude
On one of the open carry gun sights I frequent, someone had a lady ask him at the store 'if he was expecting trouble', as she looked down at his gun. He said 'do you have a smoke detector/ fire extinguisher in your home? Are you expecting a fire?' She laughed and said 'that makes perfect sence!'
2 weeks ago while riding Da Bus into Sturgis I over heard 2 chics talking about guns. I think they were from MI or Ind. One said 'do you know that people can carry guns and carry them in the open and even to work?' The other said 'No way really?' "Yea I dont think they should be able to do that'. 'Me either, thats scary!' I about blew my top when I hear it. I was already half lit and didn't want to spill the rest of my drink to turn around and let them have it.  tickedoff

I vote everyone who does "not believe in guns" to post that on thier houses, right out front.

Yah, you that don't believe in guns are making the rest of us protect you too.

It's good to be idealistic until you are confronted with crack head or illegal alian standing in

your living room at 2 am in the morning.

Him with a knife or gun and you with a ball bat.

That's just what happened to a friend of mine and the only reason he is still with us, is his 45 ACP

or in non gun owner terms a hand cannon.

Not Good to face a criminal with a empty hand.

I belive it is your God given right to be able to protect yourself and your family by any means possible up to and including carrying a fire arm.
Now the real question is how many people out there are willing to face taking a life?
I understand that many people can and will say, I can take another persons life if it means saving my life of someone in my family.
Once you take someones life there is no turning back, no do overs, no oops I did not mean to do that. There life has ended at your hands.
I was in the Marines for 23 years, I own guns, I know how to use guns, I know when to use a gun, I have taken someones life with a gun and I hope and pray that I never have to again, but I would.
The only way you will ever get my gun away from me is when you pry it from my cold wet bloody dead hand.
Just my 2 cents!

No I must have missed it.

Just say what you mean there California.

It's one of my pet peaves about non gunners.

Is they rely on the rest of us to make the thieves, rapists and murderers guess which houses or

people are armed or not armed. In other words relying on chance they won't be the ones to

attack a armed citizen or home owner.

Burglar alarms are good, 911 will get you protection in a few minutes or more, but by then guess

what, you or others may be victims by then.

Just a matter of preference, I want a fighting chance to save my or my loved ones lives.

Get a GLOCK. . . .   Model 22, 23 or a 27. Pick one that fits your needs and you will never regret it. I had the privilege of attending their Armory School. They’re the #1 Police issue in the USA for a reason. Nuff’ said.

Not pointing at you AL, but Duck does have a bit of a point.  Lots of ppl do say, .. I would have done this ... or I would do that... There certainly are alot of armchair quarterbacks.  The truth is that none of us know what we will or wont do until the situation is on us and usually those situations have us mentally behind right from the start.  We are brainy animals, yet still ... animals.  Our startle response and sympathetic nervous system further puts us behind in many cases as well when danger is suddenly thrust upon us.  We get that deer in headlights look for a second or so as our mind strains to identify the threat and come to terms with it.  The stress response creates tunnel vision and threat focus that further hinders our situational awareness.  The hand gets shaky as adrenaline enters the system and our fine motor skills suffer.  Judgement is poor and in this brief moment we are really in bad shape.

I have faced such a moment but not at the point of a gun.  Rather, the exploding of a jet engine in flight.  Luckily intense training eventually overcame the stress response, but the FIRST in flight emergency was by far the worst.  With successive issues in subsequent flights, and better mental training on my part, the response was reduced quite a bit.

The fact is that all we can do is try to mentally prepare ourselves for such an event and prepare ourselves as shooters so that when the moment of truth comes, if it ever does, that we dont have to think to operate the weapon.  Thats why I try to do as much shooting in competition as I can with my carry gun.  For one it introduces pressure and it makes the use of the gun less of a thought out response.  It just happens.  Thats what we need as shooters when under the pressure.  Once the brain tells the gun to go.. it needs to just happen.  So that my brain in such a situation has just a couple less things to worry about than fumbling the safety or spraying past the threat into God knows what or who.  It takes thousands of rounds down range to do this though.  To develop the point, etc...

Also, its good to exercise the brain.  Have a plan for defending the ones you love in your home.  For instance, I have briefed my family that the stairs to the second story are the choke point I want to dominate.  Nothing comes past that without killing me.  It is a funnel in my house that any intruder must pass to threaten my family as they sleep.  If someone was to attempt a break in while we are awake the plan is the same.  Retreat to the upstairs and hold the fatal funnel I have just created for them.  The family are to stay in their bedrooms and get on the phone and stay on the phone with 911 telling the police that we are armed, where we are... etc
An intruder can have anything downstairs.  I dont want to be a macho man and go downstairs to kick them out.  Hell, the insurance can replace TVs and material items.  It cant replace the lives of myself or family.

We as concealed carriers also need to use things like the news to put our mind in motion.  For instance, the recent shooting of a concealed carry outside of a Costco by police officers.  Look at that situation as a learning experience.  What caused this confrontation?  What could the CCW have done better?  What did he do wrong?  What caused the perception of danger from the store employees or the responding police?

The gun is just a tool.  The mind is the ultimate weapon.  Sharpen it.

Sorry I rambled on a bit.. Carry is a part of my daily life and I take my proficiency with the weapon seriously.  I hope my fellow CCW permit holders take it seriously as well.

Oh and Glocks are good guns, but I prefer my Springfield XD-40.  It just fits ME better and I have had far fewer malfunctions out if it than my 2 Glocks (17 & 34)

  Low bid.

No.  Better weapon.  Fewer moving parts.  Better corrosion resistance.  In fact, government agencies conduct performance tests to determine which weapon they are going to adopt and then price comes into it.  When the Mississippi Highway Patrol adopted Glocks, the testing officers were troopers from around the state, not the firearms instructors.  The troopers fired many different weapons and overwhelmingly chose Glock as the department's new duty weapon.  With Glock, the Law Enforcement Price is set by Glock not by their Law Enforcement Dealers.

When I bought my first Glock in the early 90s, Firearms Instructor and Author Chuck Taylor had performed numerous extreme performance tests on Glocks such as burying the weapons in Alaskan snow banks until the weapon was frozen then removing and firing it.  He also had at that time a 1st Generation Glock 17 with over 250,000 rounds through it.  The only parts that had been changed were springs and magazine followers.  That's to be expected.  You would be hard pressed to find a weapon from another manufacturer with that kind of record.  In fact, other manufacturers have copied Glock.  One weapon was so close of a copy that the manufacturer has to pay a royalty to Glock when they sell one.

After Katrina decimated the Mississippi Gulf Coast, those departments carrying Glocks washed their weapons in clean fresh water then dried and lubricated them to put them back on the streets.  In fact, the Biloxi, MS Police Chief sent a letter to Glock stating the Glocks stored in their armory were unharmed by the storm and they were able to put them on the street immediately.  For these reasons, I, as the Senior Firearms Instructor, urged my department to adopt Glocks after Katrina.  Over half our weapons went under water.  Those in the armory, those on the hips of officers working the storm and those weapons officers left at their homes when they evacuated.  Some of those weapons were immediately taken out of service and others were left in service until they could be replaced.  The price of a L.E. Glock is approximately $200 less than the closest competitors but it was not the determining factor.  It did allow us to easily justify the purchase to the bean counters as we could equip an officer with a Glock, holster and magazine pouch for less than the other weapon cost.

Marty

Btw, I am a 1911 man and am a Glock, a Beretta 92/96 and a S&W 99 Armorer.  I have carried the Beretta, the 92/M9 in the Military and the 96 as a Deputy Sheriff, the Kimber Custom TLE II 1911 and the Glock 23 as duty weapons.

Farther, Why is that?  Just curious.  I know a couple of 1911 guys that feel the same way. When I ask, they can't give me an answer. They are forever working on their 1911's to make them shoot better, more reliable. (springs, barrels ammo, magazines ect..) From what I can research, the Glock is pretty much indestructable and accurate out of the box. I still have hang fires missfires and stovepipes with my Colt Combat Commander. Almost not reliable for my carry gun. Always fussing with it, trying new magazines, polishing the ramp, recoil buffers, springs. Kind of like my Valkyrie, love of labor.
Seriously, I'm curious?

I should have used one of those smiley faces.  I think that the Sig line of handguns and rifles are second to none.  I carried a Sig P229/.40 as a special deputy sheriff and still own that gun.  However the older I get the smaller my carry guns get.  The Glock just does not fit my hand.
