I noticed some of you own V65 magnas. I am having a problenm with mine I can't figure out. I am having intermitent fuel pump malfunction. It will stop pumping fuel and when I turn the key on it will give a couple of clicks and then quit. I have spare pump and relay so neither of them is the problem. while I am trying to diagnose it will magically start working again. it may run for a week or a couple days i never know. I'm sure it is somewhere in the wiring but as you all know and intermitent problen is hard to find. Any help is appreciated. Hoghead

Jess from VA told me about a site with good info for Magna owners but since I suffer from a bad case of CRS and don't remember the name of the site. Maybe he'll see this and jump in.

I had the same problem with a 914 Porsche many years ago. I finally found the problem along a desert highway at night in Arizona. It was a loose fuse then, could it be something similar on your V65 now?
I can't remember much about the V65 fuel system although I had one for several years. You've probably already done this but I'd pull apart all the associated electrical connectors and plug them back together several times to clean them. If I remember right, those pumps didn't run full time. They ran only when the ignition was on and only until the float valves closed up.

I can't find your post on the MOOT forum. It may not have made it in properly. I'll copy your post here to the "Garage" area of the forum and open a thread called V-65 Fuel Pump Issue. There are still a lot of First Gen Magna riders on that board. Personally, I have never even heard my pump running.

Check all connections/fuses, sounds like a bad connection.

Thanks Budman. I had left a message on another forum and got back what I know to do next. Like what Pete said start checking wiring conn. etc. The pump is an on depand pump. When the bike is running it clicks only about every 5 seconds. I know since mine will click one time everytime I turn the key on that there is aconnection somewhere shorting. Thanks everyone for your help.

http://www.v4hondabbs.com/Best site for V4 Hondas. My guess is the kill switch and/or starter switch. These get dirty and corroded and cause all kinds of wierd problems to pop up. Since you do not mention that there are other problems, that seems to rule out bad ground or loose wires at the battery. Pretty easy to take apart and buff the contacts. Then non-conductive grease and re-assemble. Good Luck!

I had a like problem on a 86 shadow 1100. Seem to stop pumping fuel. It turned out to be the "tip over switch" mounted on top of swing arm. Suppose to cut fuel off if bike is layed over.
