Could be a railroad, but I don't think so, just from looking at the tracks...

These two marks are sitting in the exact spot where my missing kittie buddy likes to hang out... it is near where sand collects when it rains... there's no other tracks, it is only sandy right there... doesn't look like something that eats cats to me, just wondering... -Mike

Just such a creature was in the trees right at that spot the day before I left for W.Va... I didn't get a good look at it through the trees, I noticed it because crows were pestering it... -Mike

Not much evidence, but I would guess a possum.

+1. I'd guess a big Hawk, or possibly a big Horned Owl. Friend of mine in AZ has had a lot of trouble with a pair of Great Horned Owls taking his prized chickens. Marks in the ground don't look like any four legged creature I have seen.

In that respect I hope I'm wrong! I've got a cat that is part of the family also. Listens to me as well as any dog I've had. But... with the cat being gone and all, that's just too much of a quinky-dink to not suspect some "foul" play!

A friend of mine lost her small dog to a hawk. It split the dog wide open, but didn't make off with it since the owners came running when they heard him.
