Stanley Steamer easily replaced his vacuum lines using the Redeye kit and the "string trick", and is not desmogged.

I desmogged using this method: http://www.valkyrieriders.com/shoptalk/desmog.htm

desmogging is a no-op, unless you have a vacuum leak, sometimes I wish I had just done what Stanley did, even though
throwing away that big box of junk felt kind of good  Evil ...

Whatever you decide, Redeye stuff is usually good stuff...

Here's the "string trick":http://www.valkyrieriders.com/shoptalk/AirBox%20VentHose/venthose.htm

put one on yesterday
had put his original on a previous Valk, the "shiny" is pretty much the same except it eliminates the need to hunt down freeze plugs to fill the pipe holes. The kit includes chrome plugs held in much the same way as the original tubes.
I like the looks and would recommend doing it.
The elimination of potential vacuum leaks is worth the effort, in my opinion.

Did you have to cut the tubing to complete the job?

nope
had to take the right side timing pulley off to get to the right front tube.
I guess I could have cut it but decided to go all the way.

I cut the front tube, used freeze plugs, reused the two fittings that go on the bottom at the exhaust manifold and filled them with JB Weld (you might need new OEM gaskets for these two) and bought the petcock vacuum line from Redeye. (I also bought the Redeye Gas Line Disconnect but not necessary) Have less than $20 in parts. Freeze plugs don't look bad, especally if you have the Kury trans covers on. Done it the same way twice now, gets rid of a sh!7 load of parts (and potential leaks) as seen below

New vacuum caps & petcock line from Redeye {Great folks BTW!}, 9/16 cup plugs from local parts store, a big vacuum cap for thr nipple on the air cleaner, & some JB weld & my welder is what I used.
Chopped off the bottom tubes about an inch from the fitting, flattened & rolled the tube then welded it shut. Reinstalled them using red silicone to reseal.
Filled the cavity above the freeze plug then put nickels on the back 2 ports for decoration.
Cheap 'n easy, just takes some time! cooldude

check with daryl at xf6-custom.  he makes a great de-smog kit.  everything is included, and when you are finished, it will look perfect.

I used xf6-customs desmog kit also. His stainless steel freeze plugs look factory when installed. His kit ain't cheap but my Valk is worth it to me. Simon

When you desmog, do you need to rejet or do anything to the carbs?  Also, is there a website for xf6 customs?  Thanks,  Ernie

That was the point of using the nickel Patrick! Grin

Paid over $5 for chrome buttons to finish off the ports on Kim's Valk.  Embarrassed  The nickels won't rust later on & they only cost.... well, a nickel each! 2funny

There's a museum behind the Cracker Barrel??
I live on the east side of town very near Silver Springs. We don't get over to the I-75 side of town often.... too much traffic especially of the "Northern blue haired" variety!  Shocked Grin
What's over there???

Garlits' museum is a pretty cool place.  It'll take you a few hours to go through, but worth it (if you are a dragster/classic car kind of person).

Oh, THAT Cracker Barrel!
I forgot about the one off of CR-484, I was thinking of the one at the intersection of SR-200 & I-75! There isn't anything around that one but a Disney World ticket & t-shirt outlet. Grin
DG's place is closer to Belleview than Ocala. I've been to Big Daddy's place many times. Talked to him on the phone numerous times when my boss man had us fixing up his '41 Mercury Convertible. We see "Large Father" & the Mrs. around town out to dinner from time to time.
Very nice man, a true living legend!

Spotted the Travoltas out once but they keep a much lower profile, they do most of their biz after hours when needed. Folks in these parts tend to live & let live. cooldude
