http://news.yahoo.com/s/time/08599201315000Government agents can sneak onto your property in the middle of the night, put a GPS device on the bottom of your car and keep track of everywhere you go. This doesn't violate your Fourth Amendment rights, because you do not have any reasonable expectation of privacy in your own driveway - and no reasonable expectation that the government isn't tracking your movements. I don't find myself regularly posting these kind of hot-topic articles, but this is just beyond messed up. I feel sorry for those of you out West, although it's probably just a matter of time before this kind of BS makes its way across the whole country...

when EZ pass came out divorce lawyers had a field day being able to prove the wife or husband had been someplace they said they werent
The battle over this is raging in each Circuit and will eventually wind its way to the Supreme Court.
That a dope dealer was followed in this way doesnt make it easier to understand. The govmt could have used less intrusive means but they might argue it would have cost more to have agents follow the car than to use the GPS. If the bug was planted on a public street there is apparently no issue in that circuit it was only the is a driveway private property issue
I would have hoped a Warrant would have been issued before the bug was planted on the car which was on private property
I wonder if soon there will be no fruit of the poisonous tree doctrine at all

It definitely sounds like a severe infringement of one's liberty but, if they want to track me, then go for it. They will get pretty bored quick.

But, if you don't fight for the people who's rights are being trampled while yours may not be... where will THEY be while YOURS are trampled? We're ALL in this together folks... you better be willing to fight for rights OTHER people care about, even if YOU don't. Else we'll get nickled and dimed to DEATH. Jabba

The ninth circuit has always been out there as far as anything goes. I would say that their decisions have been appealed the most. One of the judges makes computers and in his judges chambers where in government no pornography is allowed had bestiality pics plus when told that he had to remove all pornography from his computer fought it and now is allowed when no other employee is allowed. So the ruling is a everyday thing with them being privileged that is. The investigators can put enough info together to see where you've been if they want between trackers, cell phones,sun-pass and more that you have very little hope of privacy. They are also the ones that made the ruling for the Cross out in the desert. http://www.donttearmedown.com/ They are a bunch of rebels. Like Daniel said onstar is the public's own acceptance of tracking and big brother. They can shut down your car if its stolen or if you dont make the payments for it either way.

It's easy to sit back and say "it doesn't concern me." Here's something to think about.
Martin Niemoller addressed Congress on October 14, 1968 - what follows has been rephrased many times, but it appears that this is the actual statement.
"When Hitler attacked the Jews I was not a Jew, therefore I was not concerned. And when Hitler attacked the Catholics, I was not a Catholic, and therefore, I was not concerned. And when Hitler attacked the unions and the industrialists, I was not a member of the unions and I was not concerned. Then Hitler attacked me and the Protestant church -- and there was nobody left to be concerned."

I thought that's what you were thinking of. It just has more power in its entirety, so I tracked it down. There are several versions, but this one appears to be the original.
