I'm going to go darkside on my new to me Interstate and was wondering if I went with a 195/65/16 tire, would I have to remove the nutcage on the right rear fender? I found a Continental Vanco 2 tire in that size and thought I might try it instead of the 205/65/16 tire that I have on my Tourer. The tire might be narrow enough that I would not need to remove the nutcage. What do you think?        uglystupid2

Sixguns, the 195/65 is essentially the same size as the OEM tire in circumference and 0.6" greater in width.  While you may have to do the nutcage mod, I would doubt it.  You also should not see any difference in RPM with this tire.

I believe Disco is running this size, so he can chime in.

The only tire I could find in that size was the Continental Vanco 2. Disco, if you are running that size, did you find it in any other brand other than the Continental?       coolsmiley

I keep looking and looking at this tire on ebay -
205/60-16 Falken Ziex ZE-512 Item# 360285150994 and on sale now for $74 w/ free shipping.
It's usually $78, but it goes on sale fairly regularly.

I am running the discontinued Continental Vanco in 195/65-16 with no nut cage mod.  I found the tire new on the VRCC Classifieds earlier this year and remembered that Patron said it was his favorite DS tire of all the ones he tried on his Valkyrie.  After the success I had with his DS recommendation on the 'wing, I gave it a try and like it.

The short answer is no, I have not found any other options in that size.  Weird to me that if you go to tirerack and search by size that there are no options.

Are there options I have not found???

I did not know that the Continental Vanco 2 tire was discontinued. Still shows that you can buy that tire at various places on the internet. I think I will give it a try on the Interstate. Thanks for all the responses. By the way, I'm trying to get the Interstate ready for an Iron Butt ride starting on the 23rd of Sept.. Leave Fort Worth on Thursday the 23rd to Ocala Florida and return to Fort Worth on Sunday the 26th. I'll need some help with the Interstate on Sunday the 12th (wrench party) to get her ready for the Iron Butt. Spline maintenance, change air filter, new brake fluid, changing out risers. I need new shocks, but don't know if I'll have new ones before the Iron Butt. Those shocks are a pretty good chunk of change.     Shocked

SG, I bought these progressive shocks http://www.jcmotors.com/p-14907-progressive-412-series-115-chrome-shocks-honda-vtxvalkyrie-kawasaki-vulcan-triumph-rocket.aspx for my Interstate and I love 'em.  Buy the H/D model or they will be too soft.  The difference was shocking Shocked and they are on sale for $205.

My understanding is that the Vanco is discontinued.  The Vanco 2 is not.

More about the Iron Butt, please...

Which risers are you going with?

Dave,

I found out about this event in Ocala Florida, and decided to make the trip to honor my father and all the soldiers of the 65th Infantry Regiment. My father fought with the 65th Infantry Regiment in Korea in 1952. I checked the mileage from Fort Worth to Ocala Florida and it is just over 1000 miles. I'm going to make it an Iron Butt ride.

You are cordially invited to attend.

Soldiers of the 65th RCT

The risers that I will probably get are the ones that are on HDL site. They are the one's made by LaMonster. They look like the one's sold by Aeromach. I think I'll take advantage of the Labor Day sale that they are having.
