There's no correct way to say this, so I'll just say it:

Why are you posting remarks/pictures on a public forum about an event that was private, invitation only?

Seems like there is a select emailing list that you should be sending this to instead of posting for all, especially those who were not invited.

There.  Flame on!

Now you P$SSED ME OFF.
People post pictures of places that they have been that we were not invited too.  So according to your remark Rainmaker, I take it if you go to a family reunion you can't post a picture because you have not been invited.  Your just mad because you didn't get in invite.

The only reason we made this an invitation only because we would have 40,50 people tell us they are coming and don't.  We always try and get a head count a week before the BBQ.  When we buy groceries we plan on that many people.  If you don't show up we have alot of food wasted.
If you tried putting something on like that and spent $500.00 what would you do?
We won't turn anyone down if they ask to come, but if you say your coming come or at least call.
I don't see anyone in the DFW area putting on a BBQ like we do, and we started because of the club, and even though we don't have a bike we still put it on for the bikers.
The first year we had it in East Texas everyone was invited.  How many from the DFW area came, just a handful. Did you come? Majority of people were from out of state.  So what would you do.

You owe Gearjammer an apology, he was not initially invited.  He will be next year.

I agree with Rainmaker.... In DFW if we have events that exclude people we keep the planing as well at the "look how much fun we had" pictures off the board.

WHY, don't hurt my feelings if I'm not invited.  I like to look at pictures and see what everyone is doing. So ..the only pictures allowed to post is if they are a DFW event. So by looking at the board you hardly have any events, because there are no pictures posted. So your telling me no one can post a picture of a wedding or an event they went too, because the members were not invited.
How childish.

Good point, catfish.

Strider has never invited me to Africa, but I enjoy reading his threads with all the pics of London and whatnot.  (No offense, Strider - but I think you are one of the more well-known picture-posters on this board).

Basically we would be limited to posting Inzane, Cheaha, Romp in the Swamp, and a few other events that all VRCC-ers can attend that I can't think of right now.

How boring would that be?  We definitely wouldn't see nearly as much of this country (albeit via pictures) as we do because of those that share their ride reports.

I'm glad they had a good time at the BBQ.  I wasn't invited...I'm over it.  At least somebody got to ride their Valk, have some good food, and a good time.

I expected a knee jerk reaction and a burn the bridge response and was not disappointed.

You both live in Texas but you haven't been active in the DFW chapter or the Texas group for years.  Someone got upset about something and TR went exclusively to the general board.  No invitations to rides were accepted by you guys while Freedom was still beautifully going down the road.  You left us.

If the pictures had been posted to the general board and not on the Texas board, I would have said nothing. That's where you post and where your loyalties lie. But posting here just makes no sense as such a small subset of the people on the Texas board were invited to the bbq.

I don't recall ever requesting an invitation to anything - my mother said that was impolite.  As was just dropping in when you weren't expected.

As for Gear Jammer, he was caught in the crossfire but I do not back down from my point - the pictures could have easily been emailed to the select list of attendees versus posted to a public forum so that all who were not invited could see the event.

Kaiser, how does this relate to Strider in Africa?  If he invited you, would you go?  Could you go?  Winnsboro is an easy drive from this area.  But like anything else taken to the ultimate extreme, you would say that no one could post any pictures based on my initial reply.  That is very simplistic and not the point at all.  The point is - WHY PUBLICIZE AN EVENT FOR MOTORCYCLE RIDERS THAT ONLY THE INVITED ARE ALLOWED TO ATTEND? Do you want more people to know about it and attend? uglystupid2

Catfish, you'll never understand why doing such things just drives a wedge between you and many riders in the chapter.  And that is sad, because you are really nice people.

I expect you to respond I am just whining about not getting invited and that you don't really care what people think, so go ahead......

As I said before, knowing it was coming - flame on!!

What if Strider did invite you and several of your friends, and you went and had a great time? And you all went back again, and then for some reason, unknown to you, you didn't get an invite. And the next time you saw Strider (sorry Strider) and your friends they were all....look at the great time we had without you!  crazy2

The reason I jumped was you assumed Gearjammer was initially invited.  He was not, he was invited by another member and was welcome.  So you do owe him an apology, because he didn't know it was an invitation only.

That was a bad example and I shouldn't have dragged him (Strider) into it.  My point was that I enjoy his posts (with pics), but obviously am not invited to join.

Not knowing any history of this situation - and only getting info from this thread - I did interpret your post as "if everybody isn't invited, don't post your pics here".  Perhaps it is an over-simplification of what you wrote, but that is the way I took it.

Thanks for the clarification of the way you intended your comments to be interpreted.

To your original question, if I had extra food, I'd freeze it.

To this "reply" - I guess when you have nothing to say or rebutt with, "how childish" must be the safety words.

Beats "are not" and "are too".

I'm done with this. Post more "how childish" remarks if you want and if it makes you feel better.

1) I regret that Bobby got caught in the crossfire.  He's a great guy.

2) I wish the first grenade had not been lobbed and that an emoticon had been used on the General Board so we could know how best to interpret the "Don't post anything on the TX board about the BBQ." post...

3) While "sub-Dallas Chapter invitation-only events" may be overly formal, we are a diverse group spread over a very large geographic area, and yes, friendships that extend beyond the Valkyries or the VRCC have developed.  Some extend to other interests.  Many extend beyond ownership of a Valkyrie (TX Ranger & catfish, flamingobabe & hotglue, and Wanderer in this thread alone).  I suspect the same holds true in Houston or any other large / heavily populated area.  To me, that's been one of the most enjoyable aspects of my involvement.  You really do meet the nicest people on a Honda!  But I don't believe it's exclusionary.  It's just the way humans choose to congregate or not.

Janet and I had a great time at our first TR BBQ in '08.  It was the first time we'd even met our hosts.  I regret that TR & catfish weren't afforded the common courtesy of a heads-up by those who no-showed.  See what that has led to?  We didn't receive an invitation in '09, and that was OK, but I had to "crash" the party to deliver to QOTFU & Duct Tape the signed picture matte that was framed with the picture of Dag on one of Lyn-Del's Valkyries while riding the Three Sisters.  I tried to sneak in and out, but was discovered... and welcomed as if we were the best of friends.  I got to meet Strider and even got to help wrench on QOTFU's bike!

Would I have enjoyed seeing everyone at the BBQ this weekend?  You bet, but I wasn't invited and could not have made enough time.  No worries, here.  Would I have enjoyed riding to Hico to watch 6-man football?  You bet, but I could not have made enough time.  So, instead, I attended one off-board Collin/Denton county sub-chapter mini wrench party and two off-board Frisco sub-chapter ride-to-eats.  Should have taken pics.  It wasn't hand-made BBQ, imported boudin, Mary's CFS, or Koffee Kup pie, but we ate pretty well!
