97 tour with 75,000 miles

Got the tank off, replacing air filter, noticed small crack in fuel line where it connects to pet rooster so I am replacing that also, will be changing spark plugs.

Any tips on installing tank and fuel lines to make it easier?
Any certain type of fuel line needed? Can i get this at local auto parts store?

Wanting to replace vacuum lines bike pops, cracks and makes other noise that i have been told may be result of bad vacuum lines.
Trying to remove vacuum line but it will not come off of valve.
Any advice about this?

What else should I do or inspect while the tank is off?

Thank you very much for your help.

Note of thanks to all who have taken the time to help me save money and keep my Valk running over the years. You guy and gals that take your time to help others on this site are a great bunch of people.

You should consider doing a de-smog while you are there!

Save you the problem of new vacuum lines!

With the fuel tank back on, but not bolted down, you can place something (I use a squarish piece of 2X4 cut-off
that's handy) under the back of the tank to raise it up a little, to help you get your fingers up in there where you have
to connect the two hoses back to the petcock. Experiment, it is hard for me to say exactly, or even to repeat it
exactly each time, but it is helpful. I shoot a little wd40 in the tip of the hoses as I try to mash them back onto their
receivers on the petcock, though if you get wd on your fingers or the outside of the hose it kind of cancels out any
helpfulness. Don't forget the third hose, its receiver comes out of the bottom of the tank near the same area.

I replaced some vent hoses with hoses from NAPA... they're slightly smaller, but I jambed them on there real good,
works for me. I've not had to replace the fuel hose, I'd be real particular about getting exactly the right stuff there,
being on fire probably sucks  Shocked ...

Good quality 3/8" i.d. fuel line from an auto parts store will work just fine. Use worm gear ss hose clamps & make the new line about 3/4" LONGER than the stock one. Makes putting it back together MUCH easier. I use a pair of long slightly bent needle nose pliers to reinstall the fuel & petcock vacuum lines.
I too strongly suggest that you do the de-smog now as you have the hardest part {air cleaner removed} already done. Do a search on desmog & you will have all the info you need to do it!  cooldude
Been there, done that many times!!
