I would like to get some help from a knowledgable valk mechanic.  I have a 2001 interstate with about 16000 miles.   It has been some time since I have been able to ride my Valk.   I had cloged jets and float needles which I  replaced myself. Also replaced OEM petcock with Pingle.  Now I have a new problem.  It is very hard to get the bike running.  If it is cold, when I try to start it I push the choke all the way on.  Since the carb work has been done, the choke no longer has that last 1/2inch of hard movement, but I can see the inricher working.  The engine will start at a high rev. about 1500/2k, but will guickly drop to about 4 0r 5 hundred RPM for a very short time then stall. It will then not restart until several minutes later and will do the same thing.  If I keep at it i can get it to idle but at a low RPM.  If I try to give it throttle, it will stall.  I did  finally get it running and allowed it to idle and reved it until it got to operating temp. I then synked the carbs.  That seemed to smooth it out a bit.   When it is hot it will start right away.  It sat overnight and when I tried to start it it would idle at about 5 or 6 hundred RPM.  If I tried to give it throttle, it would stall.   I let it idle for several minutes (no choke) At this point, putting on the choke had no effect.  and got it to the point that I could rev it.   While it was ideling, I felt the intakes and the right bank didn't seem to be getting hot as fast as the left.  Decided to try to go for a short ride.   It seemed like it was lacking power when put under a load. I am afraid to try and take it very far.

I am  thinking of taking it to a dealer, but don't know if they have a mechanic that is familar with the Valk resulting in my spending a bunch of money then still having problems.  I would much rather have a mechanic who is knowledgable of the Valk. I am able to  do mechanical work, but do not have much knowledgable with motorcycles.

Is there anyone out there who can help me?  I am willing to pay someone a reasonable amount for the help.

The good news is that you have people close by that can definitely help.  I recommend posting this same message on the Florida Valk page here:

http://www.valkyrieforum.com/forum/vrcc_florida.cgi.

I wish I could help - but don't know that much about them myself as I've only had mine for about a year.

I highly recommend checking out the Florida board before going to a $tealership.
