Just bought (yesterday) a 98 Tourer Jade/Black with 17,000 miles.  Riding 300 miles home across Washington State,  I notice two issues.   1)  In "clean" air, the Valk is good, but when a car/SUV/truck is in front of me (2 - 10 car lengths),  I really feel the buffeting... is it common, and what Lowers or Air Wings are used to stop this.      2)  The stock seat sucks,   I've heard the 2001 + seats are better.   What seats are most members using  (it came with a custom lowered seat w/gel),  but after 80 mile it was no low, and I put the stock seat on to finish the 300 mile..... ps.  would like a nice seat for the wife 2-up.
NOTE.  I also own a 2003 Kaw. Vulcan Nomad as comparison,   the Nomad has Corbin seat, pull-back risers,  (aftermarket) extended lowers (to prevent buffeting).  floorboards... much more comfortable than the Valk  in it's current set-up.       So help me be a Valk believer!        Vince in North Idaho.

Vince, the 2000 and up  drivers seats are much better than the 98s. The rear seat is the same as the 98s. I personally have the ultimate bigboy seat with the backrest and an ultimate passenger seat on the rear. You'll get a lot of different opinions on seats so try to find someone to trade with you and compare. Also risers and highway pegs will help  too. Baker air wing and lowers should help with the buffeting. Glad to have you aboard. Enjoy cooldude

+1 on the Ultimate seats. Des is a super nice guy. I ride in a King Big Boy with my height it is much more comfortable.
Some buffeting in traffic is normal. I use Baker Air wings for lowers. They are nice, because you can open or close them. They have upper and lower sections that close independently.

Vince,
I have a 97 standard w/ tourer windshield and Baker air wings and the ride is very
good. I also upgraded to the 2000+ seat which is also good for the price. I live
very close to you I think. I sent you an email with more info if you want to meet
somewhere...

Love my Ultimate Big Boy seat. Also have the Ultimate passenger seat and she loves it as well. I have done several 500+ mile days without a problem.

Better to be judged by 12, then carried by 6.

Never had a problem with the oem shield. Sux wearing a helmet tho would get a occasional buffet. After batwing was on it was worse. Lowers on the forks helped me. Now my hat stays on. Its normal behind traffic. Try a different seat.
