We bought a "Tempurpedic" mattress in a king size down in our Florida place. I have issues with ruptured disks in my back and neck, and the mattress is fantastic.  Smiley Up here in CT we have a conventional mattress with the back saver blah blah, and it doesn't come close in comfort. Sad

If they weren't so darn expensive we'd run out tomorrow and get another one like down south for up here. I was concerned about it holding up, but we got it two years ago, and it has been great. I should also add that I weigh in at 300 pounds, so the mattress gets a workout!  Embarrassed

I inherited my parent’s temperpedic bed and I HATE IT!!   this bed is rock hard, and I’ve had a sore back every single night I’ve slept in it!!  we switched back to our old bed (a seally I believe) and I’m finally sleeping again.

What I hated the most about the temperpedic was that I sweat in it, you have to pull yourself out of the “hole” you form into waking yourself up in the process.  I sleep on my side and my shoulder hurts, but my arm fell asleep (I guess that was the only part of me that slept)

The good things;  I didn’t feel my wife toss and turn all night!!  She slept like crap on it also.

There are several different types of temperpedics, I don’t know what style I have, I’m sure it’s the hardest!!  My opinion is that it’s way too much money for what you get.  Maybe having a sales man sell you the “perfect” match would be better then inheriting one!!

good luck!

I have had both.  Sleep number was OK.  I have the tempurpedic now.  It's better.  But my broken back still hurts when I stay in bed too long.

I like how the TP bed sucks the hot out of me when I first lay down.  It cools me off real nice when it's time to sleep.

We have had a tempupedic for 8 years now.  got it prior to having my spinal fusion done, it helped alot before surgery, and it is still extremely confortable.  My wife loves it also.

Beds with memory foam withhold body heat, and tend to stay about 8 to 10 degrees hotter than a regular mattress, hence I tend to sweat in them. I've actually always gotten my best nights sleep on my leather couch. It's awesome. My wife cant stand my snoring, and the mattress I paid almost 4 thousand dollars for is too hot. Couch  cooldude

Loved my temperpedic, gave it to my son when he moved out and needed a matress.  Bought a Knock off memory foam matteress at Costco to replace it, only $600 for a queen size.  Almost as good, I sleep like a baby on it.  Get a memory or the temperpedic, you won't regret it.

had a bad back before    20 + years on it and we both still sleep real well   bo nore back problems

Best way to shop is to lie on one and if you fall asleep in 5 minutes its a winner

About a year ago my wife and I bought a sleep number bed, we shipped it back. For 3 weeks we could not get a decent nights sleep, it was a king. This past April we bought a temper and I have never slept this good in all my life. They are pricey, but I will tell you...for us it was a good investment. ALso got a great finance deal, so 0% for 3 years...I kept my money in my account...

Isn't the sleep number bed an air mattress?

I like a SOFT bed.  I like a waterbed.  But, when we have water beds... I keed them so cold....  my wife freezes and gets sick.  So we can't do that.  We tried the sleep number bed... and it was OK.  But we couldn't snuggle... there was a RIFT in the middle, or when we tried to fill that with a blanket... there was a hump in the middle.  It was like having single beds.

The Tempur is a compromise... it's nice... but I think it makes my arms go numb.  I weigh 320 lbs, but I still have hard corners on my shoulders and hips.  They make pressure points.  I really fight numb arms.

Overall I like it though.  I feel pretty good, as long as I sleep about 7 hours.  If I stretch it to 8 or 9, my back gets really angry at me.  (I broke my back in 1991 in the Navy).

As far as I know the Temperpedic comes in only one frimness, at least I wasn't offered a choice when I bought mine.  I am currently at my son's in Wichita, who has my original Temperpedic.  I'm sleeping on a conventional mattress while here.  I sleep ok no matter what, but my arms go numb on any mattress I ever sleep on.  I think it is related more to sleeping position and muscle tone, than it is to the mattress.  This doesn't mean I'm calling Jabba flabby! laugh

There are 4 different mattresses. The first couple are just foam and the upper priced ones have more foam and pillow top.
We got a deal on the top of the line, and it is too heavy to move. My wife & I have a hard time lifting the corners changing the sheets.
Great sleep

I've slept on a sleep number, it was a very nice bed.

I bought a tempurpedic, tried out a lot of the different models, the entry level one was the best for my back.

Mine felt MUCH "harder" when I first bought it... but, seems to've "broken in" (so to speak) and seems much "softer" (initially) when getting into bed.

At least three compression fractures to my back over the years calcium deposits on my vertebrae... I'm all goobered up, but this bed seems like the best thing for my back.

I have had a temperpedic for 4 years in November.  I like the mattress and sleep well, but it is much warmer than a conventional mattress.  I sweat much more in bed than with a conventional mattress.

It does seem to help my back.

(On the other hand, one night in the winter I let the bedroom temperature drop to about 50° or less and I was cold for hours.  Plus the mattress was as hard as a rock.)
