Had a cool front come thru Texas this w/e, only got up to 95 today so the wife and I decided to take a cruise. First time in a long time we both were able to make time for this!
Did about 130 miles. The last 25 was coming home about 3:30-4:00. All was great but there seems to be alot of HOT air coming past the radiator up the sides of the tank and blowing right at us. Felt like a couple of hot hairdryers set on high heat!!
Besides the Baker Air Wings is there anything else that could deflect this air some other place, like under the bike maybe??
Seems like the plastic piece in front of the carbs and behind the radiator/fan (which I take it is a diverter for the air anyway) could be extended to divert the air farther out or below the engine.
Anybody run into this problem and what will fix it??

Maybe riding in a cage with the AC on will stop that hot feeling. Just joking but I've noticed the same hot air. Here we went from the 90's to the 70 / 60's and I'm feeling the same heat. I thought maybe it's been so continuously hot we didn't notice motorcycle heat. With the air wings open completely I was getting enough heat I didn't want them closed at 60 degrees this morning.

'99 Standard. I do have a set of Harley Lowers I "bohemian rigged" that may be causing some different air flow. These were installed to eliminate the "helmet bobble" from the airflow under my Memphis Shades shield. They fixed that problem but now I noticed this "hot air" problem.

If you move to AZ: You won't notice the radiator heat. As RP said: he moved behind the radiator heat to cool off.

Well as I see it Arizona is also "Hot" in more ways than one, not only with the weather but the illegal immigration issue. If I was going to take a vacation this year I wanted to go to, or at least pass through, Arizona and if not vacation there stop for a meal and fuel and spend the night just to support, even in a small way, this states struggle. Going against the "boycotts" the jackasses were calling for!! But, that's enough turning this into a political thread; back to my "hot" problem, anybody??

Even with the Baker Air Wings I had a problem with the rush of air trying to stuff my beard up my nose. Take a look at Big Bike Things. They sell a fork mounted wind deflector like the out of production Hondaline. Helps a lot, good people to deal with as well. http://www.bigbikethings.com/winddeflectors.html

I've got the lowers and I think that is what's happening, if I had a beard these would keep it out of my nose, like yours, but it's helping bring more air through the radiator and at me. Seems like if there would be something to place behind the radiator to divert that air away from me.

95 degree is still hot. I once owned an 2K Ultra Classic, and if you want to talk heat, try Bar-B-Que heat. My I/S produces nowhere near as much heat as that bike. Probably a lot of heat you may feel comes from the road surface and additional accessories put on to avoid a little wind buffer. I've ridden the I/S in West Texas Desert in June and it can get pretty hot, I never felt uncomfortable, even with a long sleeved shirt.

If you are riding and it is a must that you keep your eyes on the road, you are riding too fast.

I will assume you don't have an I/S. The radiator pods on an I/S do just that, divert the heat from the radiator away from the rider. I put a pair on my wife's Std. I replaced the air guide behind the radiator with one for an I/S so the pods would be functional.

Do these things divert the air to the side, I guess that's what the two holes are for, correct? What is the difference between the I/S and the Standard air guides behind the radiator? Looks like these might even divert the air that comes under the windshield, so there would be no need for the lowers, right?

I replaced the air guide behind the radiator with one for an I/S so the pods would be functional. This is why I asked about what model Valk you had. I have an IS, and the heat is diverted just like you want. The IS even has a shield that stops the air from flowing to the rider after going through the radiator, instead diverting it to the sides. It works well. My HD gets hot enough in traffic to give you physical discomfort, and red inner thighs. So, cheer up, it could be worse!
