I am converting my interstate into the Supervalk, and modifying the trunk to a convertible.
I was considering removing the pods.  I have never seemed to get any benefit from the air control system, and I have played with it in all conditions...freezing to 100 plus degrees.
Has anyone removed the pods on their interstate?  If so, was their a marked difference in the ride?  I would like to expose more of the engine , but don't know what is underneath.
Any suggestions would be helpful.

you have a couple of mounting tabs on the highway bars that hold the pod in place.  Those would be very unsightly when the pods are removed.  Other than that, I can't think of anything that would detract from the bike...it would look like a Tourer with a fairing.

The heat shield for the Interstate sticks out 4 to 5 inches from the sides of the radiator, the crash bars have the Pod mouning tabs, the Radiator doesn't have the crome side covers like the Std and Tourer. I wouldn't modify the existing parts just in case you want to put the pods back on, I would replace the parts with the Std or Tourer parts. Just my .02

I think you should do it!!!

Actually I have no idea what it would look like or change the ride any but I'm looking for a set of pods.

If you do decide to remove them and then sell, keep me in mind, ok?

You may not realize it but those pods are stopping a lot of wind buffeting, keep all your parts cause you are going to want to put them back on.

I bought my 2000 I/S with the pods removed, standard crash bars added, the air guide removed (the plastic shield between the radiator and the motor and you) and teh standard ebdcaps the pods came with the bike and I wanted them on.... once I put them on ( and replaced the I/S air guide) I noticed a difference in heat and air flow.. I won't take them off again (also a good place to mount stebel air horns Wink )
