several thoughts:  did you put the cover set diaphrams in correctly?  did you check the fuel strainer?  i would add doing these extra steps:  drain each fuel bowl.  add some sea foam to the fuel tank.

I definitely sounds like lack of fuel.  Make sure that the vent line at the rear of the tank is not kinked as someone already mentioned.  You can pull down on it near the kickstand.  It has a plastic "t" in it part way up that has nothing attached to one leg or side.  When it dies, open the fuel lid and see if it sucks in air, if it does, the tank is not venting.

Mine quit going down the road once in a while, a new vacumn line from petcock to the number 6 carb fixed it.  Hoser

Sounds like a bad ground to me, Geez. Check your battery terminals and the ground at the frame as well as making sure that the ICM is solid in its slot. I had the same problem about 5 years ago but the temp was 109 and no tree in site!  Angry Those grounds are tempermental.

Had the exact same symptoms, using the advice above I was able to prove it.
It can get complicated in that a very warm day will heat the tank, thereby delaying the problem.
I ran with the spare key in place and when I could tell I was about to loose it, I open the gas cap and 'Bingo' it came back to life. My vent was blocked. It was a very simple problem to fix. coolsmiley

Good luck!
