Anyone have feedback on rear speaker wire routing? I bought the pre-manufactured harness for the Interstate and after looking over the rear pod location I'm not sure how to best route the wiring to the pods. Routing the main harness from the connector under the right side cover can easily be brought to the bottom front of the trunk, but from there what have others done, drilled into the trunk and ran the wiring inside the trunk compartment to each pod? If so, there seems to be a plastic lining in the trunk, does it come out and you feed the wiring between it and the trunk, or do you drill right through the lining and into the trunk? And where do you drill to get from the bottom trunk into the lid of the trunk at each pod? You would obviously have to leave slack wiring so the lid will open and clpse, but will this not eventually break the wire? I'm not too sure if this is the recommended way, but if so the pre-made harness with connectors leaves you at a disadvantage as you would have to drill large holes to accommodate the passage of the connectors opposed to a bare cable. I'm installing Poke Audio db501's in front and rear, which I have fitted to the housing with the help of the pictorial provided by this site (bravo!! great help) but routing of the wiring has me wondering.

Route under seat to first speaker. Remove both speaker assemblys and trunk backrest and drill a small hole on the side of the speaker box adjacent to the seatback for the harness. Route the harness for the other speaker around the outside of the trunk where the seat back will cover it to the other speaker box. Again drill a hole on the side adjacent to the seat back big enough to fit the wire through to the speaker. You can get small plastic stick on J clips to hold the wires from any auto store. The harness follows the contour of the outside of the trunk about midway up the backrest. Give yourself plenty of slack where the harness comes from under the seat to the first speaker.

When I got my IS the speaker was wired as described above. I did not care for the wire running up behind the back rest it was too visible. I later rerouted it under the trunk following the wiring for the lights. This was a pain,I had to seperate the inside and outside trunk shells then route the wires up to the speaker locations I'm at work no but could post a pic later to show the finished product.

Instead of spending a bunch of money updating last century's technology I went this way: http://www.newenough.com/pricing/private/4232I removed some weight, radio, cb, changer, antennas, got rid of the ugly control pod on the bars, no longer tethered to the bike with heavy cable wiring, and have beautiful sound at low volume that the wind and freeway noise doesn't blow away. SuperValk or loaded doesn't matter. Just selling the cb and changer almost paid for my setup. If I ebay the rest I may come out $$'s ahead. As far as reducing the value of the bike it's already 11 years old and the pool of interested buyers here in BC, Canada is pretty small. This suits my riding and is just an option. YMMV

Alan,
I like it, other than newenough for buying, where did you go to size out the helmet to get the right fit?

Hope this helps you, I just wanted to clean up the wire running up the trunk and behind the back rest. This photo is hard to see,it is the bottom of the trunk the wire going through the chrome bracket is my speaker wire. I removed th trunk and drilled a hole directly behind the existing hole in the trunk support bracket. again it was a pain but its clean.

It's not too bad of a job other than that pulling the trunk apart includes removing about 500 screws.

Hi, Gord. I don't want to hijack this thread to Canada, eh. So far any HJC helmet in Medium fits me. I spend winters in AZ and take full advantage of shopping for my Valk down there.... while I ride my 03 Nomad down south.
