I think I just saw a possible answer to scary bolt removals like when the Valkyrie waterpump goes out after being on there for 12 years, and then BREAK the bolt is now stuck in the engine block....major headache.

Its made by LOCTITE and its called "Freeze and Release"  It is supposed to work better than normal penetrating oil because when you spray it on it actually freezes the bolt, shrinking it and allowing the oils that it has right there to penetrate much deeper.

I will definetely buy some if I ever have to remove my water pump.  I was lucky with the alternator, it came off easy and now  thanks to anti seize I can easily remove any of those bolts....which I do check from time to time just to know they are free and clear......I dont know about the water pump bolts

Yes, bolts that have been in place for a prolonged period especially in aluminum holes can be a real heartbreak.

I will usually give the bolt head a good couple of wacks with a hammer with the aim of helping to disturb the bolt threads corrosive bonding to the aluminum.

The hammer type philips head impact wrench does the same kind of shock treatment.

Slowly increasing pressure on a stuck bolt is not the way to go. It will twist off the easiest and leave you with a problem.

Used to be all the connecting bolts were phillips head but now they are hex heads and a different approach is called for.

I'll keep that in mind.  I've had very good luck with several Loctite products.  They used to make a plastic cleaner that was great on windshields, though I haven't seen it for a while.  It sprayed on as a foam that softened all the bugs and protected the plastic from being damaged.

I've used that and liked it as well, and have not seen it anymore. Thought I was losing my mind - well I probably am, but not about this it seems.  Grin

Better to be judged by 12, then carried by 6.

Any bolt I remove, I put anti seize on them. Makes it nice, esp if road side repairs are needed.  cooldude

I agree.  Same thing I do.
