Sometimes ya just gotta go...

Winter Springs, FL - Occasionally...

« on: September 13, 2010, 11:17:01 AM »

I don't know 'bout all y'all, but this here's been a hot, hot, hot summer for us!!! And, I for one am mighty glad to see it finally draw to a close. In fact, Napper and I'm in such a giddy mood over it, we're gonna throw a shin-dig...

We're gonna ride to Ft. Payne, AL (just south of Chattanooga, TN), this coming Saturday and dine on some pig at a local BBQ eatery I've been eyeballin' fer some time now, and it's time to give it a try.  This also just happens to be the home of the legendery C&W band 'Alabama', so we figure to pick up a tee shirt or two and visit the fan club there. We also plan to ride over (ten miles or so) to Little River Canyon and gawk at the waterfall again on Sunday mornin' on the way back home.

I realize this is unfairly short notice and all, but... well...  we both nearly come down with a serious case of 'the can't help its', and it's all we can do to contain ourselves until the weekend comes. If anybody wants to drop by, come ahead on! If y'all can't, we do understand... but we're gonna party anyhow! The weather has finally broke into decent ridin' weather again, and we ain't gonna miss out on no mo'...

Hey neighbor. Not gonna be able to make it. Will be near Ft. Walton for work. However, will be makin rounds in your neighborhood in the near future. We ate at the Pink Pig just north of Ellijay yesterday afternoon. That would make a nice ride also.

Hey Steve,

Well sir, I am partial to pig parts, especially that which has been smoked over an open pit! As you know, I'm also rather partial to ridin' some... Puttin' those two thangs together into a single outing is plumb splendiferocious, in my guestimation, so I'm all fer tryin' that'un on fer size too!!! You call it, amigo, and we'll try to be there... Sorry we won't see y'all this weekend, but there are plenty more where this one is comin' from...

Dang Bruce, I sure hate to miss it.  I sure thought about it yeah - after your gracious invite the other day. Undecided

But this is my last weekend at home before crossing across the big pond again, so starting yesterday, I am doing the "joys of home ownership".  In other words, I am washing the outside of the house with bleach and trimming summer new growth from the trees.  Oh joy!!!! > Sad

Maybe I should have stayed off the road more throughout the spring and summer days and done my honey do's then.....NOT!

You know me, I am partial to pig parts as well.  Who knows, the bleaching may go faster than expected. Hahahaha.  Grin

My friends,

Dang. It sure would have been nice to have y'all drop by for some socializin' and ridin'. What the hey. Brakes need repair (depending upon your point of view), honey-dos have to be performed, prior commitments have to be kept, and some distances are just too great. I do appreciate your responses, however, and at the least the acknowledgement that you wanted to be there with us.

The weekend is evolving as I write this... What started out as a two day thing has now expanded into three. Yep, we're gonna meet up Friday morning and make the trek on that day. We'll do some site-seeing and riding around, on, up and down, and over Lookout Mountian, and we'll no doubt find us a cold frosty beverage or two for social enhancement purposes when the sun sets and the kickstands are down...

Instead of a local motel, we'll be staying in a chalet at Desoto State Park (a major reason we expanded the stay length - two night minimum to rent those). We're also seriously considering grilling out some hefty beef portions, which may allter our previous plans to dine at that Q place... If that does turn out to be the case, I reckon I'll just have to go back yet again and try their pig parts out... I do intend to keep going until I get it right, though...

If anybody wants to join us, or if you think you might be venturing over that way, send me a PM, and I'll give ya my cell number... We can always hook up 'in progress' on any of those days... or evenings...

Joe,

While there are several more than satisfactory motels in that area, we'll actually be staying in a chalet at Desoto State Park... two miles or so southeast from down town Ft. Payne. Interested? If so, I'm confident we can work things out...

Sorry, DDT, but I can't make it.  I'm already committed to riding a little Saturday and then working a booth at McFarland Park in Florence for the Trail of Tears ride.  Hope y'all have fun and eat some BBQ for me!

Glad to see your old wanderlust is showin up again.  Wish we could meet up with you.  Keep on posting and trying, maybe one day we will just show up.  Keep that up and no one will ever catch you on mileage.
We hope to get up to Maggie Valley, probably on Oct. 9th for a few days.  It's been one of the hottest summers I remember in N. Fl. too.
