On the way to work this morning the Valk started to run like I was starting to run out of gas. On acceleration and deceleration you could hear the bike wanting just a little more fuel. It was running kind of like it dose right before you switch to reserve. I have 1/3 tank of gas and when I switched to reserve it did not make any difference in how the bike ran. Any ideas? Vacuum line? I rebuilt my fuel petcock about 2 or maybe 3 years ago, I would think that would still be OK.
Thanks

My 1st guess would be the diaphram in the petcock is starting to fail.

Mine does that once in a while... and I think it's my Dyna 3000.  If I cycle the key... it runs good again.  This probably ain't your problem... but I figured I'd throw it out there.

Could be the tank vent. Try sticking a wire tie (tie wrap) under the cap before a ride. If the problem goes away you know your vent is clogged or kinked.   Cool

my 99 tourer did that exact same thing about 6 weeks ago on the big road.  i too had a fairly new kit in mine also.  it turns out that it was again the petcock.  i changed both of my valks over to pingle (1311-ch) (no vaccum).  the bike immediatly went back to running like it always did.

Funny thing is that when I first got this bike I took the petcock apart and found that someone had installed the spring on the wrong side of the diaphram and it was being held open all the time. Maybe I'll do that and ride home and see if that helps... cooldude

Wow...found one message on the board that a guy did just that, changed his spring to the other side to eliminate the vaccum and make his petcock manual.... cooldude

Mine did about the same, except that it left me stranded on an highway ramp, stuck in the middle of traffic...  tickedoff I too had installed a kit in the petcock 3-4 years before because it was dripping fuel. I did not change it for a Pingle, though. Just rebuilt it again and problem never showed up again.

It was the Diaphram, I've got a spare petcock with a diaphram in it that is not too old, I think I will put this diaphram in with the spring on the wrong side so it stays open all the time.

Thanks for the help...

The only thing wrong with turning a stock valve into a manual valve by disabling the diaphram is now you are relying on the off setting to actually turn the flow off.  My feeling is...once one side is worn (vacuum) the other side (switch) isint far behind and it will flow gas all night long if it fails to seal.  GET RID OF THE OEM  once it starts to fail is my advise

I don't think anyone made a mistake by installing the spring on the wrong side.. It was a common thing to do years ago..The thing is that the vacuum line should have disappeared,, so,, if it didn't, maybe it was a mistake after all.. I think most folks that want a manual valve have now switched to Pingle..

My feeling is that the stock petcock is a poor performer (off / on) when use manually.

There is no positive stop turning it off and the touch is very sensitive, where you may think it is turned off, but in reality it is still on!

There have been suggestions that loosening the screw that holds the knob will give a better feel but it still remains chancy!

A leaky petcock and/or a leaky float needle that is only issuing a drop or two of gasoline a minute may never be discovered as long as the two are not in unison, but alignment will surely cause trouble.

You may never discover a leaky float needle until that time the petcock fails.
