Had a great trip down to Ruidoso, NM this weekend. Thanks for those that provided some guidance and suggestions.

I took the non-interstate roads for the trip down stopping off at Harry's Roadhouse for breakfast in the Santa Fe area on Old Las Vegas Hwy.

The goal was to make it down to stop in for the Golden Aspen Rally held in Ruidoso Downs and hit The Buckhorn Cafe in San Antonio, NM for an award winning Green Chili Cheeseburger (not necessarily in that order).

It was a beautiful day with a brief sprinkle that didn't last nearly long enough to clean my windshield...  ???

I decided to drop into Ruidoso the back way and cruise through Lincoln, Billy the Kid territory. Ran across this Torreon which I thought was pretty cool.

I was running a bit late and missed the town tour so I made my way down to the rally site.

This was an award winner (not for The Long Riders):

High temp was running in the upper 70's.

I stuck around for about an hour or so checking out the bikes, the vendors and then started to make my way back.

Nice sunset for the return trip.

It was just after 8pm and with these older eyes not seeing as clearly at night as they once did, I decided to stay the night in Socorro. I could have made it home by 11:30 or so but I was in no hurry.

Enjoyed the free breakfast at the Days Inn that next morning and headed out with weather clear and crisp.

Right at about 600 miles round trip and the new IS performed flawlessly.

Good read!!  I was in Ruidoso in 1987 when I visited my sister that then lived in Alamogordo, NM. I spent a week rambling around that area (I live in Virginia). I went to Cloudcroft, Ruidoso, Inn of the Mountain Gods, White Sands National Monument, and other places I can't remember.

BTW, sister passed away last month in San Antonio, Texas where she had lived since 1990. I rode there in April and spent Easter with her. Glad I made that trip. It was the last time I saw her.
