My appologies ...Venting guys..., i just went to my local Honda stealer (time to buy a new rear tire) first they say they dont have one but can get one in 3 days.(dunlop elite 3, $300.00 and $45 to mount) Trying to get it done for thunder beach in panama city fl. on I'm local here.
As part of the change I want to do the recomended Spline lube ,3 oring change and inspection and replace my worn out brake pads(additional labor he said would be about another $100.) by the way he also said they dont have the o rings. He had the brake pads on hand at a cost of $44.
As if those prices didnt rub me a little wrong..... when I mentioned to the service manager I wanted the o ring job done and that i wanted to speak to the tech and have him assure me that the tightning sequence would be done appropriately and the appropriate moly grease and paste would be used...he had no idea what I was talking about??? and wondered why I would want to do it if it was not giving me any trouble... I forgot to mention this is the same honda stealer i bought the front tire from last may and drove away only to make it to the first red light and heard metal to metal when the breaks were applied. I turned around and went back waited another 45 minutes while they pulled things down and reinstalled with the help of another tech trying to figure out how they screwed up. They were very secretive about what did not get done correctly and just blew it off as "well your ready to go!" They wont allow anyone back in the tech area so i couldnt observe. needless to say I am stuck with this dealer and VERY frustrated. dont have the tools/jack to do it myself...dont trust these morons to get it right no mater how much i have to pay.
I cant stand incompetence when youre getting paid to do a profesional job.
Poman out

I agree with you 100%. I will share my tools, and help a bro out with the wrenching if they like. If were you, I would try to find some one close by like me who is willing to help you out. It helps if it's not a last minute, must do job.
I personally avoid the dealers like the plague!

poman. Call Honda/Yamaha of Fort Walton Beach. If your in Panama City, it's about 65 miles to your west. I bought my E III's there about a year and half ago and paid 286 for the front AND the rear.....mounted....while you wait. No chit. They've changed hands since then so I'm not sure about tire prices now, but give 'em a call and see if their still doing tire prices like that. I could be wrong, but I think they are. http://www.hondayamahafwb.com/

You get two tires mounted and balanced for 300. If you only need the back, and you are willing to ride to Crestview (45 miles east of Pensacola) its 80 miles from you Ill r/r your wheel and drive you to the honda shop so you can buy the tire and bring it back here (850) 865-5378

Find other honda riders in the area. V4's. Goldwings, Valkyries. Ask who they use. That is how I found Mike Prop's automotive here in Amarillo. He rides and only works on multi-cyl (read more than 2) bikes. Is a great mechanic for cars and trucks. He did my engine work for the V4 Magna and checked out the Valk for me when I bought it. Trust him completly.

OK Guys poman here again...Thanks to all the guys who unselfishly offered their help, especially ChrisJ over in crestview.
I called Fort walton Honda as a couple of you suggested and they seemed very good and new all the right things to say when i quized them about the spline/Oring job. They also will do two tires out the door for $330.32. I said I only needed one because the front was only 2 months old with less than a tank of gas on it....she said..."well your going to get two anyway, you dont have to mount it now" lOL I found that amusing. (nice, very knowledgeable lady also. Jes I think) she described the spline job to me and told me they use a marine moly because it rejects water a little better.
short story long...I am going to take it to them and she said if i get there by 9 am they will have two tires mounted, spline job, brake pads done no later than 1pm. I can buy the brake pads at the panama city honda stealer and take them with me since they dont have them.
Bad news is neither dealer has the orings in stock and will have to order them and they wont be in until next week. Any sugestions as to where to get some erlier? Ive called tallahasse, Dothan also...carolina trike. All next week delivery.
Thunder beach is next week...Oh yea...anyone want to buy a brand new dunlop elite 3 front tire? LOL Poman out

And for your secretive issue with your front wheel, they didn't put it on and torque the right bolts in the right sequence. That practice almost guarantees the front wheel will not be centered and those little rivot heads on the rotor will contact the bolts that secure the brake caliper. Sounds like you found the right place now.
Good luck.

Great!!! if I could get the orings and the thrust washer (in case)from you till i can get the new ones in I would appreciate it very much. I just called the FWB shop and talked to the service manager and he assured me if I got it there at 9am i could get it done. I will go to the local panama city shop and buy the break pads this afternoon to bring with me. I got the last set of tires they had so he promissed to put my name on them. I'll try to give you a call when i get off work today to let you hear my voice and confirm our meeting in the morning. I sure appreciate all the help and the drive down to FWB from you. Take care poman (Allen )

Hey Guys,
Thanks to CrisJ I have my two new tires, orings replaced and brakes checked. (didnt need new pads yee haw). splines looked like new all around. cant say enough about the Fort walton Beach honda "dealer". They were miles ahead of the Panama city Shop. I will be doing and sending business their way from now on. Props to Brit their 15 year mechanic and Jes the inside service lady. I drove over after a phone call the night before. Got ther at 9am and they took her over and i was out by noon. Brit let me get a quick polishing on the back of my truck bed for the rims before he remounted them also.
Total bill out the door for 2 elite 3's, mounted and balanced. (no weights needed on front tire at all) brake check, 3 new orings installed drive shaft pull, regrease and spline regrease check, also drain my pumpkin and refill with my Lucas sysnthetic oil.....$330.22...out the door
Thanks for the recomendation Crisj and i will get those orings and thrust washer ordered and back to you asap.
oh yes anyone needing a dunlope 251f still has nipples on it. approximately 1 tank of fuel run on it around town. let me know I will sell it since the e3s were two for one.
Thanks everybody great site! poman out!

Thanks for the kudos Hoser.........its just what we do. Yes Poman, I think they did a proper job on your Valk! They are good folks there, but still I buy very few parts from there.....and then only if they give me the discount for being a frequent flier..........HDL is up to 50% cheaper

And i will get those o-rings and thrust washer ordered and back to you asap
Poman, even if you are a po man, it is wise to order several sets of these to have on hand. The o-rings, thrust washer, crush washer (oil drain), front/rear brake pads (OEM), filters (oil and air), T6 Shell Rotella oil gallons, 80-90 synthetic rear end dope, OE 2-piece valve stems (if you don't get all-metal, you should), 6 exhaust crush washers. I even keep front tires hung in the shed (car tires last awhile). You'll be glad you did.... assuming you are keeping the bike, all of this stuff get used (and a lot of times, you need it now, and then have to order and wait).
I'm just sayin.
