A friend loaned another friend his 97 standard (with a maladjusted throttle lock), and the throttle stuck wide open for 15-20 seconds on start up. They believe the motor is damaged, but it seemed to run fine on the way home.

I know my 2K I/S is rev limited at about 7200 RPM, but they claim that the 97s did not have this feature.

Can anyone settle this dilema so that everyone concerned can calm down?

I would say that it does also.  Mine won't run over 125 mph indicated. Lips Sealed  I have heard other people have taken the limiter off and have been able to go markedly faster.

I have a 97, and it has a limiter.  It is in the computer, I do not know how anyone could "take it off"?

If you put a dyna 3000 on it, then you can up the revs.

There is no way a stuck throttle would wreck the motor, unless left running like that for a long time.

The rev limiter does dot limit top end speed.  It kicks in around 7K rpms........youre not anywhere near 7k at 125mph
