I don't know how many of you are Vets and have used VA services but I'm pretty sure you're not going to want to be given vouchers and thrown to your own devices to find an insurer.

Privatize SS?  Isn't the country crawling out of hole that cost most people >40% of their personal portfolio?  Would you want your SS thrown in there as well so not only your portfolio is down, but your supplementary income is cut in half or gone as well do to the same market conditions?

Privatize medicare?  Well, now that this poor senior who has had his/her portfolio reduced and the  SS check is in the crapper, he or she is now supposed to buy their own health insurance.

Is that really what MOST republican and/or TeaParty voters want for themselves and their Vets?

President Clinton's advice to the dems was to listen to what the people of the Tea Party are saying
and forget about what the leaders and sponsors of the Tea Party are saying.

Alan Grayson, D-Fla. a representative in the House said it best when, during the debate on the health care, said that the Republican's idea for health care was for you to die fast.

I agree with Jeff, Grayson is a nut job. That became apparent during his first campaign, and then had the gall to stand up during the Health Care fiasco and make stupid assertions. I suspected he was a jerk from the start, then he opened his mouth on the "floor" and removed all element of doubt.

Yea... 22 years Navy.  NOB, NAB, NAS, CVN, LSD, LPH, etc etc.....

There has been "talk" and "chatter" of privatizing nothing yet.

Hell... there has been talk of a lot of things.... but it ain't happened yet.

Privatize SS?????

how about the gub-ment just stop taking SS from me entirely!  Then I can take that SS payment the gub-ment been stealing from me and put it in various CD's and such.

THEN, I'd at least know I'd get SOMETHING back.  As it stands right now, I'm guessing I won't get a cursed thing from SS by the time I retire.

They'll probably tax what pathetic SS returns I do get at 80% anyway.

cooldude    Actually there has been talk off and on about privatizing these items for quite some time... since the 70's actually,..... but it's just talk for now and we can continue to hold the line.  The OP did not provide any new strong documentation (or a link to any) to support anything new really.....  I equate the OP with "Chicken Little and The Sky is Falling".  Just stirring up poo poo to get a response and distract everyone away from the real issues with the current administration.

I also use the VA and as good as it is for us Vets, it is not as some might lead you to think... the premier answer to all health care.  I have to pay for my monthly scripts, they are not free, whereas some local stores are now offering FREE meds for common antibiotics, diabetes meds etc, with a script.  However, a VA script is no good in that case.....go figure.  It all balances out in the long run..... we are all gonna die sooner or later anyhow.... Point is-I would hope that Vets like PaValker would take the interest in their own benefits and which Congressmen and potential GOP candidates are pushing the voucher system (send vets on their way).
I believe McCain is one of the champions for this cause.

USS Guadalcanal (LPH-7)  1982-1986 and I made Chief (E7) on her.  Ha.... Lush Plush Hotel NOT!  LOL.  The only ones even remotely close to being lush and plush.... were the CVN's (I was an O by then).  I remember being on station, out on the catwalk having a smoke, on the flag ship during the Embassy Bombing in Beirut Lebanon    http://www.beirut-documentary.org/digital_video_disc.html   Of course I wasn't on the cat walk too long.... don't even think I got to finish that smoke.

Actually, the SS fund would be just fine if Democrats had not raided it three times since its inception.  Look it up.  And yes I served; U.S.Army, 4th Inf. Div., Tet-Vet, all of 1968.  And I still wish that I had my M-16...JTL

So let me get this straight...

A Democrat created SS, saying the government would do a better job of saving for my retirement than I would...

Then, the Democrats raided the fund, leaving nothing but I.O.U.s left to pay me back...

How exactly is this a better job than I could have done???

My initial response stands... stop stealing MY retirement and let ME put it somewhere that I deem safe!!!
