Following a small SUV and a Mazda Miata northwards on Hwy 60 from Dahlonega, GA Approaching a left hand bend and terribly a southbound bike overcooks the bend and smashes with such violent force into the front left corner of the SUV. The rider hits the windshield and is spat back onto the road. I'm saying F' F' F' F'F' as we all slam on the brakes whilst moving to the edge of the road. I'm first to the rider. He can't be alive. I expect to see blood, broken bones. He rolls over, alive and semi concious. I tell him to lie still, everything is OK. You're going to be fine. A guy in a pick up tells us he's a medic. I yell to someone stop the traffic coming uphill. I run around the bend to stop traffic coming downhill. The rider is in the middle of the road. I'm shaking and can't believe the force with which the rider hit the SUV. I'm dialing 911 and my crappy T-Mobile service connects immediately. We need an ambulance 3 miles north of the Stonepile on 60. I have 3 vehicles stopped. The third, a white 15 seat passenger tries to pull past the 2 in front. I walk at the front of his vehicle and yell STOP WHERE THE F' YOU ARE. The vehicle stops. Asshole. Local Sherriff arrives. The medic has the guy on his back, helmet still on. Someone has a blanket over him. The Sherriff is talking to the guy and getting clear answers. How can that be. He hit the SUV with such a terrible smashing force. How can he be talking coherently and not screaming in pain. 2 cyclists stop next to the rider in the middle of the road to get a good look. I want to punch their heads off. I take over traffic control of uphill vehicles. People suck. I'm asked if anyone is hurt. I tell them no and disappointment flits across their eyes. Get a f'ing life of your own. So sorry there's nothing to see. Local Fire/EMT ambulance arrives. They take over. Stretcher out and rider strapped to it. Stupid people on motorcycles can't manage to stop and then start moving again without wobbling about the road. Can't move to the "wrong" lane to by pass the guy lying in the middle of the road without wobbling about. Idiots in cars who don't want to slow down even though I'm waving them down and I'm standing next to a EMT pickup with all it's emergency red strobes lit up. One of the riders who was with the poor guy in the road says it looked like he up shifted as he came into the bend. Panicked, No brakes. The fallen rider had only just returned to riding and was leading the small group he'd only met the day before. Ambulance leaves as State Trooper arrives. People suck. Rubber necking morons. Should be allowed to shoot them in a fleshy part of their body with a 22. It takes about 2 hours from me calling 911 to the wrecker taking away the SUV and bike. It took the fallen rider a split second to change his life.

The rider was wearing a full face helmet. He hit with such force the face bar broke but saved him from smearing his face across the SUV windshield.
The first words the prat in the SUV said were "Look what you've done to my truck". I wanted to punch his head off his shoulders.

He drove a RAV4 what do you expect Sounds like the helmet saved him, hope he makes a full recovery.

I hate to see and hear about this. Paul, you did a great job helping out the rider and stopping traffic.
People live in their own world, don't give a d*** about others. Sorta like I gotta see this, glad it didn't happen to me.
At first it sounded like the rider wasn't riding his own ride and maybe he wasn't, being the lead rider. Whatever, he got hurt and that's bad.
There certainly are some lessons to learn here. For me, even after all these years, I am concerned about my rusty skills. I will ride today on little traveled roads and practice my braking and cornering skills on the new to me 'Strom. Sometimes we become too complacent or confident and we get in trouble.

[/quote] The other riders in the group were all from out of State. The fallen rider was from Atlanta and it seemed he was showing them the local roads. Showing them with the cap off his testosterone jar.

Paul,
Sounds like you did all the right things to help the fallen rider.
Have to agree with you, the general public are morons. Common sense is not the norm anymore.

I vote Brit Man for President.
Thanks Mr. Man.
Thanks for helping that person.
Hope he fully recovers and rides some more.
Yes people suck sometimes, and don't know how to respond well to an accident.

All I did was call 911 and get pissed off at the passers by. I need to do a CPR/First Aid course at the school bus yard when next offered. Then I wont feel so helpless and useless at an accident scene.

After I walked at a car coming at me in my lane that wasn't slowing down as quickly as I wanted the Sherrif told me I was very brave. I told him I thought they wouldn't want a big dent in their hood and would stop. He then had a few words with them.

Dont say your useless at a accident. From what I read you did very well and was not useless at all. To be honest those in the medical field that roll up to a scene without equiptment feel the same way.

Good job, and yes people are morons. No wonder the democrats think we are all like Homer Simpson. I used to fly Air Rescue, and after landing in the middle of the road after the troopers shut down traffic, had people try to drive around the cruiser and right under my turning blades as the paramedics were trying to load. Always wished I was carrying, and could put a round through their radiator. Ive seen some crazy scary stuff out there.

Britman,
You did good under pressure... What you did might have saved that rider's life. Some people just don't know what to do when they come up on an accident. That's when the moron in them comes out.
I try to live by: either help if I can or stay far away if there are other people already helping. Nosing in close for a look see won't help the situation.
Thank you for doing what you did to help...
I hope you're around if I ever have an accident.

Hey Paul, you did more than 99.9% of others would have done... Good on ya!
A buddy and I were witness to, and first on sceen of, a hellaitious head on a few years back. We provided 'muscle' lifting the crushed roof off the injured elderly woman, while an off duty EMT tried to help her... Your statement about "People suck. Rubber necking morons. Should be allowed to shoot them in a fleshy part of their body with a 22", is spot on... Mind if I use it?
Thanks for helping. Folks like you make up that .1%, that help keep my faith in humanity.
