Looks like I'll be helping to maintain a 2000 Heritage Softail for Kim's stepdad. I know all about where to buy good Honda parts but I am at a loss in the world of HD. ???
He is tired of going to the local HD dealers & paying a Kings ransom for regular maintenence.
He uses the chrome filters of course. He wants good quality filters, I already told him NO Fram!!
All you Harley guys, help a brother out!  Cheesy

Better to be judged by 12, then carried by 6.

My HD bud works for a dump truck company and he slapped on a filter from one of there trucks. Either the dump trucks or reg work trucks. Spun right on. I believe it was a Napa. It was while in color. Been doing it for a few years now. This was on a Evo motor, not sure about the Revo of her dads tho, if the threads are the same.

If he can live without chrome, Napa, O'Rielly, Advance auto, Pep Boys, Auto Zone, to name a few.

Harley Requires 5 MICRON Filtration.

Harley Filters are no higher than Honda filters and if you get the Black one it's only

7 bucks.

The only oil requirement is that you run Diesel Grade Oil.

Like Rotella T Synthetic or Dino Oil at 20w/50 Diesel Grade, I am betting you could get away with

 15w/40

though.

Harley Oil is 6 dollars a quart for the 20w/50 360 Brand Oil, which I run all year.

Primary to be changed every 10,000 miles use Formula F from Harley, it just takes a Quart and 4

ounces.

The Tranny is good for 20,000 miles and use either Formula F Harley or Belray is a good alternative

but costs just as much.

1 Quart will do that tranny.

So you can save a little money on oil and a lot of money if you do it yourself. cooldude Cool coolsmiley

Oil drain plugs torque at 14 Ft. Lbs to 21 Ft. Lbs.

Use of a new oring every time is not warranted.

A little piece of card board under the filter will keep the oil off your bike when changing your filter.

I get the black filters from Harley also.  Use 75-140 synthetic in the gear and 0-40W Mobil syn. in the primary.  Run Mobil syn 15w-50 in the engine.

Might try the 15w-50 in my Valk std. next year.  There its Valk related. uglystupid2
