This is not directly related to our tyres but some may own a second bike with these.
Cobra Avon AV72 240/50 R16 rear tyre. Made in Great Britain October 2009.
Batch numbers 4109, 4209, 4409. Numbers are on the side wall of the tyre.
Recalled due to separation of components due to manufacturing irregularity.
Return to dealer immediately.
Cheers Steve

Hey Steve, Parts Canada just gave the OK to replace my 2 year old Avon Cobra with 18,000 kms on it.It blew on me this summer on I-90 in New York.Avon never got back to them so they made good on it. They offered a new Cobra, any other make of tyre to fit the rear or my money back.I choose an E3.This Cobra was a replacement for a defective Venom.I know some well read folks here don't like the E3s but I have never had a bad one and soon,my 3 Valks will all wear E3s.A few pics of my bad Cobra.

scary stuff.

Did you notice any vibration or handling issues before it let loose?  I'm sure you noticed some afterwards.

Interesting, Avon has just replaced a front Cobra (after a heated discussion with the tyre dealer) on my Fast Black. Had the tyre fitted day before setting out for Austrian VRCC meet loaded up and set off.
Front end felt squirrelly at walking pace with a slight bounce but we had a channel crossing booked so I hoped it would settle down. Over the next 2 weeks and 2500 miles it never did wear in, tried all sorts of tyre pressures but still felt wobbly at low speed.
Got home lifted the front end and taped a pointer to the front mudguard. Tyre was out of round by nearly 3mm over nearly a third of its circumference. Moved the pointer around the tyre and the out of round was not even uniform around the tyre section.
Phoned Avon's (now Cooper Tires) factory in Melksham and offered them a ride so they could check it out but they declined.
Eventually tyre was changed and my Valk's back to normal. Needless to say Metzlers next time.

Hi Jr  I never had a tyre go out on the road. Had a rear Venom go flat in the garage and that was because of cracks in the treads like on the second pic of mine. That's why it got replaced.
We were riding in bad raining weather when it started to go bad.We had slowed down but it felt like I was riding on pudding. Just didn't feel right but got worse.I was starting to counter steer when we heard the pop and then the big time vibration but we got it stopped.Tyre had come off the rim. When we left my town of London Ont,I did check pressure and was at 40F/42R and not many KMs on them.
We met a guy from New England at Inzane in Mich, that had the same thing happen to him with a rear Avon Cobra but he wasn't as lucky. His bike hit the guard rail on the road and did some big damage but he came thru it OK.He rode the bike it Mich.
Be careful out there, Adrian

Sounds like time to switch to Metzlers.
