The Landmass Between Mobile And New Orleans

« on: September 28, 2010, 06:26:52 AM »

Thursday of next week, Oct 7th, after my college course lets out, I'm leaving South Mississippi headed to Pueblo, CO for the weekend.  I'm going to stop in Monroe, LA Thursday night and I'll get to Pueblo Friday night, probably late.  I'll leave either Sunday after lunch or Monday morning.  I'm looking for something affordable that includes breakfast.

TIA,
Marty

Pueblo is large enough to offer most chain hotels.  I don't stay in Pueblo, but up the road (US 50) in Canon City, or with friends in Penrose.   I guess, I can't answer the question of lodging for you.

If you are going to be there for the weekend, there is lots to see.  Colorado Springs has a beautiful ride on 24 by Pikes Peak, turn left at Divide and head into Cripple Creek...then take the loop around to Canon City, then back to the Springs.   There is also the Garden of the Gods outside of Colorado Springs.   If you end up near Canon City, as you head west on 50, outside of town a couple of miles, look for Skyline drive.   It is one-way, and offers some neat picture opportunities...   also, spend the bucks if you can and drive across the Royal Gorge.

I am not sure how you are heading towards Pueblo, but if you go thru Raton, try to avoid staying there at night (I mention this in case you don't make Pueblo Friday nite).   If you head on up I 25 towards Trinidad (<30 miles), lodging is cheaper.   I 25 has posted 75mph so you will make some time once you get away from civilization.

I have some pics from the area on my website..  including Canon City.. if you are interested..

Be sure to take a good coat, it will be getting chilly up there in the evenings.

We have some members in the Springs I believe.   They should be able to help out.

Ride safe!
