I am on my third set of Avon tires on my Interstate and this is the first set of the supposed new Cobra series.  Anyway with about 40-45% of the thread remaining on the rear tire which is about 16 months old, the tire has come apart.  This happened while on a recent road trip between Durango Colorado and Scottsdale Arizona.  Looks like a separation that started near the middle of the tire and then a huge chunk of rubber lifted off.  I checked the front tire and it is starting to show very thin surface cracks.

I have contacted Avon tire in Stow Ohio and they have told me that I must take the tire back to the dealer.  That dealer is out of business.  Then they gave me phone numbers for four other dealers.  Two of those dealers are out of business, one no longer deals with Avon and the forth refuses to get involved.  Has anyone else had this problem when dealing with Avon tires and if so what did you do about it??

Update to my own post.  On another thread someone mentioned Avon Rep Jesse Priel.  Apparently he is no longer with Avon.  They seem to have moved from California to Washington and now are in Oregon?? Still trying to get help from this on these tires.

If do find out something let us know. Sure it will raise alot of concerns. Not that I'm jumping on a band wagon. I took my frt. tire off because of the 40 mph hop or wobble. It is one when Avon first came out with the Cobra. But it is around half wore so may be  a lost cause anyway.

Sounds like it's time to switch to Metzlers.

I just pulled a Avon Venom rear tire that is delaminated with a good bit of tread on it.  I am done with them.   Haven't pursued anything with Avon, because I figure it is a waste of time... but you never know.  Keep us posted!

I realize that Avons are supposed to be the best handlers, but it seems over the years that there are a lot of posts like this, both with Venoms and Cobras, kinda glad I am too cheep to buy them.  Hoser

Sounds like it's time to switch to Metzlers.

I was thinking the same thing after reading some previous posts. I never had a problem with my Metzlers...

Update to yesterdays posts.  I called Avon four times and between all the phone calls they gave me names and phone numbers for 6 of their local dealers/representatives.  Five of those companies are no longer in business or no longer have those phone numbers and no forwarding number and cannot be found on the Internet.  The one shop still in business said he has not dealt with Avon since 2005.  On the forth call when I asked the representative if he had any “Big” dealers listed such as a Honda or Hardley dealership he said he had given me what he had.  Remember that for a minute.

Now get this, my local Honda dealer, Canyon Honda which is now part of the GO AZ Motorcycle group, says he is an Avon dealer and is willing to attempt to take care of the problem despite the fact that I did not buy the tires from him.  He also told me that the local Hardley dealer is also a Avon dealer.  With proof of that information from him, I am wonder why Avon did their best to not connect me with either of these two "big" dealers?

My Honda dealer did inform me that there has been a recall on one size of the Avon Cobra tires but it is not the size that I use.

Had an Avon Cobra rear seperate on me with on 4k miles. Bridgestone potenza grid replaced it and haven't looked back. Replaced the front cobra with a new on that was out of round. sent it back to the internet dealer I got it from. They emailed me a shipping label for the bad one and immediately sent a replacement. I'll probably get something different for the front when this one is toasted.
I think I got mine from Jake Wilson.

I would take issue with any tire handling better than Metzler 880s, period.  However the Avons almost always outlasted them, in fact everyone (except maybe Bridgestone) outlasts them... but no tire outhandles ME880.

I sure have read a lot of posts on Avon tires being defective though.  Metz for Valk did have a problem in around 2003-4, but this has long been remedied.  You never read about out-of-round or delaminated ME880s, to my knowledge.
