What kind of car jack????do not use a bumper jack Roll Eyes If you lift the bike up under the motor, it will work and not damage anything.

Put a couple jackstands under the crashbar, one on each side, to keep it from tipping side to side.  This is important!  Hoser

Big Mac (SoCal group) put dimensions on the ShopTalk page so you can make one with a couple feet of 2 x 4's so you can lift safely with a motorcycle jack (try Harbor Freight or auto parts store).

As heavy and I value my bike. The only way I would trust it is to use a m/c jack that has the two arms that raise (common type) and the lift adapter as on e-bay. That way you know it is sturdy and sure you would need the setup from time to time.

As long you (or an assistant) keeps the bike steady while raising it, a floor jack or a bottle jack will work.

As Hoser stated, once raised, put a couple of jack stands under the engine guards.

With the rear tire on the ground and jack stands under the engine guards, the bike is very solid.  (I would not do anything other than carefully raise the bike until I had the bike resting on the jackstands.)

When I first bought my IS, I wanted to lift the bike for cleaning and maintenance, the bike leans so far over that it is difficult to work on the left side. I ordered the pre fab adapter frame made to mount under the bike and I already had a cheap motorcycle lift. I used it once, and with the interstate the balance is wrong. Too much weight to the rear, I know I could rework and adjust the adapter some and fix that problem, but also the bike was very squirrley, wobbled around, scared me so as I didn't wont to be under it. I have a cheep jack maybe others would be different. Anyway I purchased a very expensive center stand and that was exactly what I needed.
