Rocky Mountain High !

Thornton, Colorado

« on: October 04, 2010, 04:00:11 PM »

Got up early Saturday, went to breakfast at Subway...pretty nice breakfast that is fast & inexpensive. Fueled up. Hit the road. Took I-25 north to Fort Collins where I picked up Hwy 14 going west. Went thru Poudre Canyon then west to Walden. A little on the other side of Walden I took Hwy 125 to Grandby then to Hwy 34 to Grand lake & over Trail Ridge to Estes Park then home to Broomfield. I made a lot of stops along the way & took pictures. The leaves are changing color so there was plenty of nice fall scenery to shoot. The river that flows along Hwy 14 was up a little & it sure looked nice...the sparkling clear mountain water washing over rocks & boulders. Went over Cameron Pass at 10,276 feet, Willow Creek Pass (Continental Divide) at 9,683 feet & Milner Pass (Continental Divide) at 10' 759 feet and Fall River Pass at 11,796 feet & over the Highest point in Rocky Mountain National Park on Trail Ridge at 12,183 feet. Somewhere around the highest point it began to flurry a little. My thermometer said 42 degrees at the top. The snow was blowing from clouds to the west from the next peaks over. Did 325 miles round trip. Took my time & just relaxed & took pictures & around 7:00 PM had a Starbucks in Estes Park. What  agreat ride & a super day. Who knows, maybe Trail Ridge will be closed for the winter next week or at least shortly afterwards. I hope all of you had a good week-end too. Ride safe always. tommy t IBA 1990

Did that same ride this past July, was camping in Estes Park for 5 nights, that was one of our day rides! cooldude  Truly enjoyed the entire trip 17 day trip out to Colorado.  That ride through Poudre Canyon to Walden was one of the best rides of the week.  Of course, went over the Trail Ridge road a couple of times in each direction.  Once was in heavy low clouds, could only see about 10 ft. in front of me, what a great state to ride in! cooldude cooldude

Whatever it is, it's better in the wind.

On a road less traveled.
