I guess my turn signal switch hates Mondays as much as everyone else. The last two Mondays now, I've had troubles with it. They have also been the two coldest mornings I've commuted (36 and 30 degrees), so that must have something to do with since I have no problems at all with the switch the rest of the time.

The problem I'm having is that the turn signals will not turn on unless I push the switch to just the right spot or push the switch a few times in a row. As I said, I have no problems on the return trip when it's in the 60s.

Should I just pull the switch apart, clean the contacts, and put some dialectric grease in there? Anybody have a better solution?

Yes...I had the same problem with my turn signal switch (and it wasn't cold).  Took it apart...cleaned contacts and put in new grease...all is good.

I had the same problem with my Tourer a while back when it was cold around 30 degrees the turn signal would just stay on. After cleaning and new grease all is good.

I sort of have the same problem with my IS. The "reset" push button doesn't work, need to manualy turn the signal off in the opposite direction. Also on the left turn when I turn the switch off, the running light doesn't come on.

Looks like it'll be another job over the winter. My To-Do list is getting longer with little things.

Don't put this off too long. If it gets hard to turn off, that is the first sign it needs cleaned. If it continues, the thumb piece will break off. It is not sold separately, so you have to buy the whole left side unit!!

Sounds like you need to change the 'Blinker Fluid' and use the 'winter weight' viscosity... Roll Eyes

Just kidding...  A good cleaning fixed that issue on my '97 Standard.

on my 99 standard, the turn signal would not turn off when pressing the turn signal.    I took out the 2 phillips head screws out of th switch and removed it from the h-bar.  I sprayed in some contact cleaner, from radio shack, and it works like new now.  Now I just have to remember to turn off the darn blinker.  I get spoiled by my 08 goldwing that has, what I call, "old man turn signals" that turn off automatically.

All the above are true including "Don't put this off too long. If it gets hard to turn off, that is the first sign it needs cleaned. If it continues, the thumb piece will break off." I know this. But I was able to solder it back together.Still a pain ,things never break at a good time. tickedoff

I just serviced this on "bark2's" bike.  He said that when it would warm up in the afternoon they would work.  i checked the flasher and it was good, and the switch wasn't "tough" to switch left and right and push in but their was  a significant delay in the turnsignals coming on.  I took a few pictures of what the switch looks like apart but I can't seem to post the pictures... Will try in the morning.

yes clean and re-lube... works great now  cooldude

Be sure to have a good look at it, maybe even take a picture or two, BEFORE you take it apart!
It can be a pain to get back together...from what I have heard...   uglystupid2

I cleaned it up this past week. Everything was filthy inside the housing, but with some scrubbind and new dialectric grease, it's working like new again.

Alright here are a few pictures:

On this second picture you can look and see that the black piece that is on the right side will "pop" out of the white piece if you squeeze the black tabs in and pull it apart.  I didn't take a picture after those two but pay attention to how it comes apart.  If you are not sure you can always take the copper piece and turn the key on and see if you have the alignment correct by sliding the piece back and forth and watching the turnsignals come on or off.  If they don't then you have it upside down.

hope this helps.
