I posted a few weeks ago that I was going to da a solo trip on the Blue Ridge.  Many members responded with lodging and "must see" recommendations, and I thank all of you for that.  My intent was to jump on the Blue Ridge at Fancy Gap, Virginia, off of I-77.  I did so on Monday, September 27th, at 11:00 am. to find fog so thick that visibility was at best 50 feet.  I ventured in to Fancy Gap and found a local diner with a parking lot full of bikes.  Everyone concluded that riding for the day was done!  This prompted a quick stop at the Dollar General to buy my evening meal (microwavable Dinty Moore)........a true delicacy!  The motel, Days Inn, was where most of the other riders sought refuge for the day.  With this day being shot, it seriously compressed my schedule.

First conclusion:  Avoid being stuck in Fancy Gap for whatever reason, and make sure you thoroughly read the microwave instruction for Dinty Moore.......I didn't.

The fog broke at 10:00 am the next morning and the weather was beautiful.  I am stating the obvious, the roads were pristine, speed limits were observed, traffic was minimal, and I did a lot of waving.  I rode the Blue Ridge south to it's conclusion, and thoroughly enjoyed every minute and mile.  The only negative aspect, and I truly try to avoid generalizations, is that when stopping at observation points where there packs of HD riders, they would not respond to even the most basic forms of greetings.  I don't get it!!!  I have ridden and owned numerous makes of bikes, including Harleys.......can't we all just get along?

Second conclusion:  I think the HD guys are just pissed that Honda discontinued the Valkyrie, and they can't their hands on one.

Ride on!!!

I never thought of it that way but you could be on to something!!

I, like most here I'm sure, know a bunch of HD riders and most are normal good bikers.

I can't remember if it was here or another M/C site I'm on (non-HD) that termed HD people in 2 catagories that fits them to a "T":
HD riders & HD owners.
Riders just share the passion of riding and don't care what you ride and owners think their sh!t don't stink and yours does because you don't ride a HD. Although I know only two people that have only owned HDs their whole lives, and they both are riders.

I find it somewhat ironic that all the HD "owners" I know previously rode Hondas, Suzukis, Kawas, etc... and now they are downpalying them and the people who ride them.

Kinda like shooting yourself in the foot I'd say!!

Park your bike in between or as near as possible to em then do the nickle trick as if you do it every time you stop just to make sure it's still as smooth as glass. One of em's gonna look and all will be jealous.

I was getting that way. Cry I only wanted to buy an HD after a couple of years of not ridding. I was telling myself I only want an HD, and nothing else. I thought I had enough of having Honda's, well I was wrong. When I seen my Valk on Craig's list, I fell in love with it. Smiley The down payment I had saved up for a new Fatboy I used to buy my Valk, and boy am I glad I did. To those who stick up their noses at me and my Valk can KISS MY A#%.
