I BOUGHT MY VALKYRIE STANDARD WITH THE SPOT LIGHTS ALREADY FITTED, BUT THEY WORKED FINE. WHEN I TURNED ON THE HIGH BEAM THEY LIT UP, AND WHEN I TURNED OFF THE HIGH BEAM, THEY TURNED OFF TOO. THEN A FEW WEEKS AGO, I TURNED THEM ON DURING A RIDE HOME, AND NOTICED A VERY SLIGHT DROP IN BRIGHTNESS AND THOUGHT NOTHING OF IT UNTIL I CAME TO SWITCH THEM OFF, AS THEY WOULDN'T. THEY WERE STUCK ON. I HAD TO TURN OFF THE IGNITION, THEN RE-START THE BIKE TO KILL THE LIGHTS. I HAVE CHECKED AND CLEANED THE SWITCH, THIS IS FINE, HAVE ALSO DONE THE START SWITCH TOO JUST AS A PRECAUTION. IT IS STILL REFUSING TO TURN OFF THE LIGHTS, BUT AS I TRY TO TURN OFF THE LAMPS AT THE SWITCH YOU CAN SEE THE BRIGHTNESS IN THE LIGHTS DIM VERY SLIGHTLY AS IF THE SWITCH IS TRYING TO WORK. THE ONLY CONCLUSION I CAN NOW DRAW IS IT HAS TO BE THE RELAY, NOW HERE IS THE RUB, WHERE IS THE HIGH BEAM RELAY SITUATED ON A 2000 VALKYRIE STANDARD? PLEASE HELP AS IT IS DRIVING ME MAD! CHEERS GEORGE

Unless your bike has had one added, I don't believe the standard or tourer came with one from the factory. Many have added a relay to take the electrical strain from the system and it has been covered extensivly on the board. (Search is your best friend!) I have an Interstate that came with relays from the factory and have never had the occasion to work on a standard. I would go to Dag's site and download the service manual. Should have the wiring schematic on that to help. Also I would look for a pinch in a wire starting near any service work I have done lately. Sometimes in replacing stuff wires get in the way and get clamped between parts. Just some ideas to try to help. Maybe someone with some experience will chime in. cooldude

Follow the added lights wires and you should get in the general vicinity of it's relay..... If none in that circuit, add a relay and then go on looking..

It seems like it is under the right side cover but I'm not sure which black cover has to be pulled.

By the way, turn your caps key off, that is yelling.   Thank you.

AT LAST MY LIGHT PROBLEMS ARE SOLVED, AFTER CHECKING EVERYTHING THAT WAS HUMANLY POSSIBLE, I DECIDED TO LOOK AT THE NEW BULB I HAD FITTED, AND IT WAS THE BULB THAT WAS FAULTY! I HAD BEEN TOLD IT WAS THE SWITCH, A RELAY, THE WIRING, A FAULTY CONNECTION, AND IT WAS THE BULB!!!!! WELL YOU SURE DO LIVE AND LEARN.
HAPPY CHISTMAS, AND THE BEST OF WISHES FOR 2011, GEORGE
