Great weather no Sunday Drivers.

The cockpit view of my VStrom is a lot different from the Valkyrie.  Since it's fuel injected, no reserve but I do have a fuel guage and other goodies but still no self cancelling turn indicators.  The fairing and cowling is a little ugly but functional.

How do you like it?

I think I might have to pick up the V-Strom for my second bike. A guy I know was selling his 1,000 cc '06 with side and top cases, crash bars, and a tank bag for $3,900. With a kid on the way I figured I'd wait until later, but I think I'll be kicking myself when I do end up buying my 'Strom.

RJ, it's a 2006 with low mileage.  Suzuki is not importing new V 1000.s

Buy the Vstrom,  Nitro  You can't go wrong!  For me, it's comfortable, lots of torque, handles great. and good on reliability.  Kind of a sleeper.  Although it's sold as a "Adventure Tourer' 90/10 off road, it's too heavy for off road IMO. Interstate cruising not a problem.   Quarter mile ET's in the high 11's, low 12's, not too shabby!

The 6th gear is an overdrive..  I haven't checked fuel mileage but I would think in the middle to upper 40's.

Get a 650 so you can go off road. It's a whole different experience.

I bought a 650 V-Strom in 08 without any intention of taking it off road. I'm morphing it into a sport tourer of sorts. Since I purchased it, the Valk has become my 2nd bike. I used to average 9,000 miles a year on the Valk. Since the Spring of '08 I have put 3,000 miles on it. Been thinking about selling but just can't bring myself to do it yet.

Wayne,

V-Strom 1000 is on my short list! I like the red and black ones with side cases and engine guards.

When I get to that point that I "can't hide my money",  I'll have one too.

A little extra comment.

As all of you know it's been up and down with me.  My body tells me differently each day and many times I want to do something that might be suitable to a younger age.

.  I cannot shake this habit of riding.  The ONLY reason that I've done all this changing is that my knees couldn't handle pushing the heavy Valk around.  My son graciously did most of the work installing the sidecar on the Valk.  After two years I wasn't happy with the the rig because as I'm fond of telling everyone that putting the sidecar on the Valk was like pulling the Budweiser wagon with a race horse. So that didn't work for me. I meanwhile bought the Nighthawk cheap.  I did what I thought was necessary to make it work for me. It ended up being too uncomfortable for my changing physical condition. My body is getting rather particular.  So then i thought a Triumph would be nice.  It would but I have adopted a policy of being real careful with my retirement funds.  The Triumph was too much.

I bought the V Strom with my motorcycle fund form selling the Valk and the Nighthawk.  This bike will become the family bike, for loan, or for good when the bucket is kicked.

I mention this because two things kinda bother me (and they shouldn't)  The first is that it seems to some that I change my mind often and that's true. It probably is hard to understand.

All I'm doing is trying to ride out my years that I have left as best that I can.

The other thing is that I have a little problem with the 'You can't hide money'  expression.  I certainly have a sense of humor and I can see where this can be used when Valk owners have two or three Valks or buy expensive cars and trucks, or you fill in the blanks.

In my case, I lived a rather modest life with a modest income.  The wife and I planned for retirement, she has passed, as you know, I'm outliving my retirement income and I'm worried about my future.

So if it seems to some that I behave  like I've got money to throw away and I can't seem to make up my mind as to what to do, just keep in mind that some of you will be going through the same in your later years.  The Golden Years are here at last, The Golden Years can kiss my arse.

Today, I'm going for a ride again.  I need an attitude adjustment . It probably won't be a long ride.  I ride only to please myself.

And that's what's nice about the so called "Golden Years"!

Wayne,

This one post says more about you and your character than someone could say if they wrote a book about you. May God BLess you, and I thank him for putting you here to share with the rest of us. You are an inspiration. angel

Thank You for being you, and for being so open and sharing your thoughts  with us without any agenda.

Wayne, I concur.  I'm glad to be retired...... but what happens to our aging bodies and minds sucks.

Keep on kickin (and riding)!!  It's what I'm doing.
