Contact your US Congressman and U.S. Secretary of Transportation NHTSA to protest Federally funded mandatory "motorcycle only" checkpoints .

The link will take you to a copy of an email I received from
Texas Motorcycle Rights Assoc.

I don't like being profiled one bit.  And I don't feel like I need to empty my pockets on demand to prove that I'm not a criminal.

OTOH, there seems to be a relatively high number of members of the MC community that scoff laws, or worse.  I wish there were a more effective way to target them and leave the rest of us alone.

Deep down I resent DUI checkpoints.  I feel they are unconstitutional.  But I accept them, because those that drink and drive put us all at risk, and they really don't seem to care.

That said, I'll oppose this, just to protect my personal rights.  But I still think something should be done about those who think the laws don't apply to them.

When the cops don't have enough criminals, the legislature makes more laws.

This has nothing to do with scofflaws, though. It's portrayed as an attempt to make motorcycling safer.
Motorcycle deaths dropped 16%, nation-wide, in 2009,  18% in Texas.  Several states threw out or revised their helmet laws. Requiring MSF courses and motorcycle awareness programs has made the difference, not uniformed thugs enforcing the whims of martinets in DC.

I find the attempt to blackmail the States by threatening to withhold tax dollars particularly offensive.

brother Mike you know how i feel about profiling and you know i am all about the rights of bikers, road blocks are another way for the polictical machine to tell you how and what you should be doing according to what some jackass in the goverment thinks, we all know that most outlaw MC's (which i personaly don't know any) are smarter than most of the goverment, that a look at NM if you call the police and ask where they are setting up road blocks they have to tell you which i'm sure will follow with the other states so my 2 cents is screw them!!!!1 Evil

Brother Curtis, the only reason we don't have the checkpoints MADD wanted was because some coyote in Austin was afraid they'd catch wetbacks.   A fellow Texan told me,  "I'll take it any way I can get it", but I feel it's a shame that we our  Rights are protected from  the DPS only because Leftists are covering for foreign criminals.

Man Ihate to hear this. I trucked cross country for 20 years and the DOT was getting bad when I parked the rig 8 years ago, now I'll have to deal with this allover again. Doesn't the government have anything better to spend the hard working taxpayers of this great country on? Maybe some road repairs that are done properly and last longer than a week. You talking about the fleecing of the
American Taxpayer, this sure qualifies. Angry Angry

Does one of the 'safety checks' involve a sound meter to measure the exhaust system output level? If so, and I have no idea if this legislation does allow for that, then we can all thank the loud pipes crowd.

4th admendment says they can ask, but you don't have to say yes.  They may not know that, though.  As for the motorcycle only stops, unless they have reasonable suspicion, which is open to interpretation, they have to stop everyone.  They may not know that either, not many constitutional scholars out there, but then, I'm not one either.  I did go through the law enforcement academy though.   Undecided  Figured out it wasn't for me after a year in service.  Hoser

there is another reason traffic fatalities are down, the economy. millions of people aren't joining in the daily commute because they are watching Oprah, and drawing unemployment.
