there's a place near the grand canyon that you can walk out on, what seems to be flat land, that is covered with a bunch of cracks in the ground, but the cracks are like a thousand feet deep?  does anyone, or has anyone ever heard of this place???

oss, ask around for me please.  (this way you look like the idiot for asking....)

thanks

The more I see of Arizona, the more I consider not returning home to Florida when I retire.  I love the painted landscapes, and I understand that the weather is somewhat bearable during the winter!

Thanks for sharing the pics!

My mother lived out there for 15 years until we just moved her to Florida lst April. Visted there a lot.

AZ is a great place to visit, but when it is 121 degrees, it is too hot to ride (or do anything else outdoor for that matter).

Sure is scenically gorgeous though!

Thanks Pete for bringing me back to my senses!  I like warm weather, but 121 is even too warm for me.

We only saw temps above 120 once in the 39 years I've lived here. But 110+ is still too often for me. Today was ONLY 93 for a high. Great riding weather now. Leaving in the AM for the Devil's Highway. RT 191 in Eastern AZ. Will post some pics Thurs. 600 hairpin turns in 30 miles. Start at 2500' elevation and end up at Hannigan's Meadow Lodge at 9100 ft.

My mother has a lady friend that lives up in Payson, near the Morovian Rim. It is beautiful up there. Roads are great as well. Still gets hot and some snow in the winter, but much more liveable than in the Valley.

Not many jobs up there though, but then again, currently there aren't a lot of those anywhere! Sad

the big house in the last photo  was my pest control client .  took him 4 years to build  it.  i think he is still working on it

I  have been here  since   1976 and I am tired of the phucking sun .
it's like a continuous  intense bright light  with no clouds to filter the light .
There is no balance  with clouds and  sunlight .

SOMEONE PLEASE TURN DOWN THE LIGHT  , I CAN'T TAKE IT ANYMORE .

thinking of moving to Costa Rica  , maybe    somewhere along the gulf  coast .

what do y'all think ?

i think you are in sedona you should ride the Valk by here and say hello as I havent seen one since leaving NY  my cell is 914 5two two 0083

is the schnelby (sp?) road accessable without a 4wd vehicle  We were thinking of hiking the vortex trail after doing the one by airport road

locals I talked to say the folks at the church in the rock are PO's at the owner as his place now is in the way of their view of cathedral rock  Its a real nice looking compound though I will say that for it

Shnebly Hill road in a car?????? Very questionable. I would try coming down it before going up it. Scenery is better coming down anyway.

When your at the Grand Canyon South Rim the Bright Angel Trail to the bottom starts at the Bright Angel Lodge.  You can see the Mule train there in the morning getting ready for the 10.5 mile trek to the bottom at Phantom Ranch.  Also in the late afternoon you can see dozens of hikers come up the Bright Angle trail finishing their 7 to 8 hour trek from the bottom.

The El Tovar Lodge is the more substantial of all the lodges and is right on the South Rim.

The Cafeteria has so many German Tourists they built a Kraut bar.  There are usually so many Kraut's their I felt I was in the Fatherland.

The elevation of the South Rim is a little over 7000 ft, Phantom Ranch at the Colorado River is at about 1200 Ft with a record high temperature of 120 degrees officially.  The record high at the top of the South Rim where all the Lodges are is only about 85 or so.

You can walk down the Bright Angel Trail for a few hundred yards just to get the feel of it and see some of the Awesome scenery.

Enjoy

We moved to PHX in 06 from Pittsburgh and we still feel like we went on vacation and didn't come back.  Yeah it gets hot, but you don't have to shovel heat.

Glad you and the missus are having a ball!  I want to ride the bike to AZ, but probably won't be for a couple of years yet.  I still have to make it to the Texas Big Bend area first.

Have fun at Grand Canyon.  It is just awesome scenery.  I was doing lots of hiking a few years ago and would go there yearly and hike down and up in a single day.  Has to be in Oct. or Nov. because of heat.  Have gone down on both Bright Angel and South Kaibab trails and then back up the other.  Last few miles coming up are tough.  did take a helicopter ride around the Canyon once and it really reveals the vast wonder of the place.

It might be good to go down Bright Angel a ways just to get the feel of it.  Lots of switchbacks at the top. Go over and take a look at the Grand Canyon Skywalk, pretty impressive, though I don't think I like the looks of it jutting out over the Canyon.  Enjoy  cooldude cooldude
