Not going into all of the reasons why. Mainly, I just got tired of dodging all of the Deer and Dummies. 40 years of riding and all of my limbs are still attached and functioning. I know that I will be criticized for this, but it was my decision and now its a done deal. I have so enjoyed my many years with this group of fine citizens and I expect I will be checking on you from time to time. I have a fender rack and a short sissy bar left over that I'm willing to part with, but I don't know what it is worth. I will be happy to post it in the classifieds, if someone would care to advise me on this topic. If this is seen as spam, then delete or ignore. Its been fun!

KLR 650 or a smaller dual sport. Trailer or pick up and you can have more fun offroad than you thought possible.
No dummies and much less chance of deer.

Wingman, What you did was to excercise a very personal choice. When you start feeling the way you did, then the move you made is absolutely the right one! This reminds me of the recent thread many of us posted to dealing with exactly this subject. I think that overwhelmingly, the majority that posted supported your decision. No need to leave the board though, since ownership is not a pre-requisite. All you need is the interest.

Good Luck in your decision. It is something that only you can decide.

Joey,
It has been my pleasure to have known you through this site and your contributions have been many.
Thanks for everything and I wish you well with whatever you plan to do in the future.
You've always got a place to stay in NJ if you're passing through.

There are lots of reasons for quitting. You only need one in your own mind.
Unfortunately, generally as we get older, our bodies tell us reasons and when we don't listen, we soon learn that we're not in control.
Stay on the board. As you know, there are a lot of friends here that don't care whether you ride or not. I've found that out.

I've had that thought more than once. Saw more than my share of bad accidents that made me do a reality check. Then then I woke up ,what would I do ? I try to keep in mind I am not invincible. This is your decision to make good luck.

Like everyone else... I support you. Stick around, if only to post non-valk related stuff.
It's a tough call. If you're at peace with it. Good on you. Be safe.
Personally, I don't want to be one of those people that end up dying of nothing.

Your choice may just be the best choice for you, and someone else can now know the joy of the "PHAT LADY". Wishing you all the best.
That voice inside is yelling at me also! But I'm waaay to stuborn to give in. That is my choice. I will probably die while riding,....but at my age and with my physical difficulties, it seems better than being spoon fed and having someone change my diapers.

Good luck to you.
Had those feelings once myself after going down in the rain, but they passed after a couple weeks.
When the time comes, I may phase out by strictly going Wing for a while or maybe trike at some point, but, for right now, still feeling comfortable on the Valk.

Pleasure knowing and riding with you on occasion. If you are ever in our neck of the woods, please stop in. I saw the ad from Sylvester a while back. I thought it must be someone else, can't be Joey. It was a conscious decision that YOU made.

I know what you are going through - I sold my last Goldwing 5 or 6 years ago, trailer and all. I found I was ONLY riding back and forth to work, 4 to midnights, with Tuesday/Wednesday off - who wants to go riding if you have to be back by 1:00 on the weekends, and who can go Tues/Wed? And the deer are pretty bad here in Indiana, as soon as the corn/beans come out of the fields. Which is Sept/Oct, when the riding is the best. My wife kept her HD 1200 Skirtster, so at least I had SOMEthing, when the urge hit. But she had knee replacement two years ago, and sold the bike, figuring she'd never ride again.
Now that the last kid is in college, and away from home, I bought the Valk this summer. Put a scope above the risers, and now I'm goin' deer huntin'!!!
I'm still concerned, but can't imagine life without two wheels. I just won't ride EVERY day, as I would have 5 years ago - maybe a day or two a week, during the heavy deer migrations.
It's a choice we all have to make. Hopefully, you'll find your way back, if it's in the cards. Best of luck, regardless!!

Gotta do what you feel is best for you. Like others have said, stick around. Don't have to own a Valkyrie to be part of this board.

John, My Wife was born in Maine and we have a plan to try to go up sometime and let her reconnect, that will require passing through Jersey. When the time comes I'll try to let you know and maybe we can hook up for a meal on the way through. Stepping away from the Valkyrie has no effect on the friendships I've been blessed with along the way. Thanks for the generous offer!
Terry, I won't go through Gainesville without looking you up, you and Iris are always a hoot! Maybe we can get Wallie to let us all move in for the weekend again!
For those who have asked what's next, I'm looking into a 4 wheeler to assist me in my newest hobby; killing as many deer as I can find and drag out of the woods.[/b] It's the least I can do for my fellow bikers!
I really appreciate the support and friendship I've found with this group. I will send my bike's current owner here and I know you will help him as much as you have helped me!

Fairly new here, and don't know you. But when you feel like you do, it's time to get off. years ago I had a few disturbing moments one after the other on my bike. My wife was 8 months pregnant, and it just left me feeling like I shouldn't be riding. 25 years later, I'm back. Maybe you just need a break, or maybe you're done. Either way, you're doing the right thing.

Ive thought the same for a couple of years now, but I bought a ZX14 and a Concours14 and with my bad knee they are lighter, easier, and much more fun to ride. Still got the Valks, but they hardly get ridden anymore. The 14s have sterling performance, and phenominal brakes, and its not much trouble to stay clear of traffic. I am 71 and know that I dont have that many more riding years, but this move has extended that somewhat I feel.
