I was looking on ebay for some old tools and came across this excellent wood planer!!  If it were closer to home, even as close as Colorado, I’d be on this one!!!  Or, maybe someone from the area could pick it up for me, and whenever I have the chance (probably never) I can visit and pick it up!!

Yup, Alph, nice piece, and so far, a really nice price! I've seen a few really nice things, go far too low (based on value), solely because of "local pickup only". Heck, it's probably worth 1/2 that, in scrap! Really nice, but I don't have 3-phase power, and don't want to build a converter. Plus, it's just as far from me, as you...

Did you check out the link, for their other auctions? Some pretty interesting stuff, almost all at a Benjamin Franklin for starting bid...

I really think that one is a little big to transport on your Valk.

I'll bet that machine weighs 2,500 to 3,000 lbs. Scrap right now is at $200 a ton!

Like most auctions, someone will come in at the last minute and drive the price up.

I don't think people realize that it's a piece of history!!  They don't make those in America anymore, and not only that, they don't make 'em to last either!!  it would be a pity to scrap it out.

I just found out my lathe was build around 1925, it would be impossible to replace!  As for needing 3 phase, get a 5 horse drive, that will convert single phase to 3 phase.  here's a picture of my lathe it weighs about 700# i would guess that planer would weigh at lest 1000#

Mine was built around 1947 - Atlas TH42. I couldn't replace it, either. Got it from my wife's uncle, with all the tooling - pretty lucky find! This one isn't mine, mine is identical, but I don't have the steady rest. I DO have the milling attachment, which is rare to find for these. Mine is in just about the same condition, even the half-nuts are immaculate!
