Was up at Gander Mt today getting some .380's and saw a upcoming class for the Utah. Was wondering if anyone has one and what ya thought? Not sure if it would be worth the money to get. Some of the States it honors also honors my Ind LTCH, at least the States I visit most often. 1 or 2 is not on the list but can do without going there. Ones not on the list of either are Iowa & Ill. I always stop in Iowa and still have it in the bag. I try not to stop in Ill for the night if I can help it. I was wondering also if it is actually a CC only or can you open carry?

I have one, along with my ND CC permit. Adds some more states.
As far as open carry, that depends on the state you are in, not what CCW permits you have. Open carry allows you to carry openly, without any permit.

Right but I was meaning for Utah. Forgot to add that. Here in Nevada the Utah permit is a good thing to have in conjunction with the Nevada permit. Gives you a lot more coverage. To answer your other question this might help. Utah Summary Utah allows unlicensed open carry of a firearm that is at least 2 actions from firing. For example, a semi-auto may have a full mag but the chamber must be empty. Permit holder may open carry as well, but their firearms may be fully loaded.

Out of the 29 that Utah recognizes, 7 of them do not recognize Ind LTCH. DE, MN, NE, OH, VA, WV, and WA. I can do without all of them but Ohio and NE. I love riding thru NE. If the helmets dont get me the gun will! I may take it along with another coworker. Its only $100.

I just got my non-resident CCW from UTAH. Does me no good here in Illinois but it will help me when I travel. I guess I would have to way the cost to the added states you get with the Utah permit. Tbone

All the states I have ever done have required finger printing... the utah non rez you have to take a class and they usually supply the finger print cards, and passport pictures and all the forums you have to fill out with them (notary) and then you send it to utah with your check for 65.00 (last time I checked)

They do but thought it was very $$, I could be wrong. I'd rather drive 20 miles then 100.

Yes they do. I always got printed in Ind upon my renewal. Now I got a lifetime LTCH and will never have to do that again.

All the states I have ever done have required finger printing... Two that don't include Minnesota and Pennsylvania (I have both).

Yeah Fudgie, you are thinking right on this.
I'm not sure how often you go to Ohio or what the penalties in Ohio are (or the same about Nebraska), but ASSUMING Ohio is similar to Indiana, I can tell you about Indianapolis--
Of course this all depends on the nature of the stop and the good nature of the LEO, but assuming you are charged with a handgun without a license in Indianapolis, you can expect:
1) you will lose your handgun,
2) you are probably facing some jail time, up to two weeks (assuming you have no priors),
3) you will be arrested and sent to the Marion County lock-up where you will spend most likely the worst night of your life,
4) you will end up with a criminal conviction and a couple hundred dollars in fines and costs even IF you manage to avoid a jail sentence,
5) you will probably spend $500 to $5,000 in legal fees.
Makes spending $100 on an out-of-state permit look like a bargain.
AGAIN, I am not stating that OHIO or NEBRASKA will impose the same penalties as Marion County (Indianapolis), Indiana, only that if the penalties come even close, it might be well worth $100 for the permit.
Federal law provides the right to travel THROUGH unfriendly states with an UNLOADED handgun, but that will not help if Ohio is your destination.

I've had my Ind LTCH since I was 18. Just got my lifetime this spring. I go to Ohio once or twice a year and always carried it in the bag. I guess I can open carry in Ohio but cannot concel carry. The Utah will help me out there and in NE. NE has some very good roads but hate the helmet thing. US 20 is awesome. One of my favorite roads. I signed up for it tonight for Dec 11th. Never had a problem in Indy with my gun. When I got stopped last year it was no big deal to the Trooper.
