It is good that BMW is making a 6 cylinder touring bike with serious cajones

If sales are good enough maybe Honda will come out with a new Valkyrie to compete with the market

Thank you for the post. I'm thinking BMW made this a blast to ride across town, county or country.

i really liked the BMW that i test drove (a 1200lt) but i didn't like the fact that i couldn't put both feet flat on the ground. saddly i don't think honda will ever make the valkyrie again.

Looks like a great machine.
Can't find support for the "170 hp@1500 rpm". That sounds like a diesel engine to me.
BMW site shows 160 hp@7500rpm and 175 nm torque (129 ft. lbs.) @ 5000 rpm. Those numbers make a bit more sense.
I hope it gives Honda a reason th reinvent the Valk!

ooops

you are right ricoman  coolsmiley here is the quote from the article  I am off by 10 lb ft on the torque and 10hp

"Based on its nomenclature, the powerplant is presumably a 1,600cc mill, and BMW says the 160 horsepower engine will produce 70% of its maximum torque of 129 lb-ft at a mere 1,500 rpm. Wow."

Looks great and was thinking about trying to get one and then I was looking a bit closer and thinking about it and there are things that I really dont like about it. First it is a completely electronic bike. Fly by wire adaptive headlight, abs, adjustable suspension there will be no working on these things unless you have the factory scanner and some mechanical knowledge. Plus from what I have seen working on BMW cars the parts are probably going to be expensive. not to mention labor time at the dealer. I dont like the fact that there is nothing on the sides to keep the bike from severe damage if laid down. Not only to the bike but to the rider as well. My mother was a nurse and all the leg injuries were from the motorcycle grinding the guys leg beneath the bike. I was trying to find the cost of the bike more than likely will also be expensive. I think I would rather go for the Concours its cheaper and more than likely easier to fix and looks pretty close. Unless you fall in love with the thing in the showroom I cant see selling to many of them. But I think Ill go take a look Grin

That's REAL nice......but and it's a BIG but....if you think the Honda Stealer is a crook, wait till you get a service bill from BMW. You better have a FAT wallet. Car or M/C does not make any difference to them. Really nice bike if you have the money!
