Got another one yesterday.  Almost the same place on the same road as the first one......pull along side the young lady texting while driving.......window half down (cool day)  one long blast and that phone was down.  This one didnt throw it in the back seat like the last one, but she sure stopped texting.

I recommend it

I do that even if they are on the phone. ...  Evil

On the same note about unsafe; all most had a head-on with a SOB drinking out of a LARGE CUP that blocked his view of the road. He was 3/4 over the line headed for me. I stayed on the shoulder some how and not in the ditch.  tickedoff Got to watch`m all the time.  uglystupid2

I have a Pingel petcock so it was a good fit to fill the gap created bu removing the fuel switch from the OEM petcock

The mount is just a short piece of 3/4 aluminum angle bar with two holes drilled one to go to the engine mount and one for the horn

I mounted mine in the stock 2000 location. I think the earlier ones were lower in the front, right? I started with a strip of stainless, and a stainless bolt (complete with all the writing, etc, on the head). I tested with a piece of steel, then went with the stainless. After grinding, sanding, buffing, and polishing, here's what I ended up with - just happened to have an aluminum spacer, the right size, that got the sand/buff/polish treatment as well:

I like it...

I guess its all in the point of view.  Its been shown that texting and driving is as dangerous as driving drunk.  The way I look at it is that person is choosing to place me at risk for their convienance.  So if a short blast of a horn gets their attention back to the road, that hardly qualifies as an assult.  If somone was crossing the lane divider and I blasted the horn to bring their attention to what they were doing you wouldnt have a problem with that.  No difference in the two the way I see it

I agree! I could have used a Stebel today. Speed limit 65...guy doing 45-55, varying speeds...
when it was my turn to pass him I already knew what I'd see...texting with both hands..one finger on the steering wheel, and holding a cigar. I didn't waste time blowing my stock horn, but I did make a "mean face" at him.....then I remembered I was wearing my full-face. tickedoff

Curious, which one is it?? A long blast designed to scare the crap out of someone (possibly leading to them losing control of their vehicle, and either wrecking, or causing a wreck), or a short blast to get their attention?

I have mine for the 2nd - to get their attention. CERTAINLY not the first...

This is the 2nd time I've seen someone "brag" about using their Stebel to scare the S**T out of someone, first was someone who had a sign "Honk for Peace". Link: http://www.valkyrieforum.com/bbs/index.php/topic,21622.0.html. Doesn't make it any better, especially if that person had fallen over, stricken with heart failure...

I like the horn. I like being heard, if the need arises. I DON'T like seeing it used as a weapon...

I can see both sides of this discussion.
A few yeas ago, before cell phones became the rage (Pun), I was in the right through lane in Ft. Wayne's downtown, next to me on the right, was a well marked right turn lane only.  Traffic was extremely heavy.
I saw it coming but I couldn't do anything about it. A lady in the well marked right lane only pulled slightly ahead of me and decided she didn't want to turn.  Sh started to pull left over into my lane.
I laid on the Rivco air horns on the Valk, she had her window rolled down.  She didn't even flinch.
No old lady, no cell phone, no flinching, no turning her head, no loud radio playing,  no nuttin'! She acted like a zombie.  I had no choice, she was crowding me out. I had to do an emergency slow down fast to let her in and hoped that no one would run over me from the rear.

The moral of this story is:  Don't rely on your horns to get their attention.  In some cases, you will have an idiot that just isn't with it and will stubbornly drive in their own little world.
Having said that, I will be installing a Stebel to take the place of the feeble meep of my VStrom's horn.

One can only hope.  Wink Wink Roll Eyes

Im talking a short blast ( I know I said "long" blast......but that is a reletive term.....long as compared to  a tap that just gets s partial tone)......Im mean like one second long......but is scares them because, first they know they are doing something wrong....and second, the horn makes a sound they dont recognize.  Either way it gets their hands on the wheel and away from the phone.........hands on the wheel and away from the phone is a good thing

I ride with OSS, who has an air-horn setup that he is NOT afraid to use if the situation arises.  Problem is that he sees things coming before I do and scares the sheeeet outta me when he blasts those horns!

So, ignore what they're doing, move away, and hope (and pray, if you're religious) that they don't kill the next person down the road. I wonder why, then, there are all of those signs along the road that say, "Report impaired drivers - Call 911." Maybe we should just move away from them.

Impaired is impaired, whether it be by drugs, alcohol, or inattention.

Sorry for the snarky response, but this whole cell/texting while driving thing is a real hot button for me, and for anyone to receive a ticket for waking up an idiot who sees fit to ignore his responsibility while driving a 2-ton missile of destruction is the most ludicrous thing I've heard in a long time. Sometimes it seems I'm the only person in the world who can drive a cage without a phone pressed to his ear or without texting while driving.  /rant off

I can see that in certain situations.  Wonder if you had witnessed the OP's  scenario, would you have pursued the noise making biker, or the texting driver?  I'm just curious.  That question is not a set up for an argument or anything.

we pull idiots over regularly for possible DUI and it's just they are on a phone. if they are weaving lanes, speeding or too slow for conditions, ignoring stop signs, lights etc. they get to enjoy complaining to their friends about the the ticket they got. i always write "cell phone use" as a contributing factor on the front of the ticket. Been riding since I was ten.  Used a horn on a bike maybe three times.  If I'm close enough to someone where a horn is going to shock them, I figure I'm too close and don't waste valuable throttle or brake time worrying about activating a horn.  I've had my share of bozos trying to run me off the road while they use a phone, apply makeup or mess with their Ipod.  Getting away from them occupies all of my attention.  Once I'm past them I sometimes offer an impolite gesture, or more often just shake my head.  They know...not that they care.

I use my horn so much (double Stebel) that I have been known to wear them out. Someone could probably plot my path through town on a map just by ear. I still don't DEPEND on being heard though. angel
