Having taken possession of a 2001 Standard last fall of 2009, I hurriedly ask my insurance agent to get coverage on this beauty.  He doesn't write bike policies but did hook me up with Progressive.  I haven't had any claims, therefore no issues.  I have heard negative things about Progressive, and yes the dingy brunette spokesperson for Progressive does give me fleeting suicidal thoughts!  The thoughts of riding two up with her on the back would be enough to stop riding altogether.  I digress!

With that said, my policy is due soon and I am shopping now.  Being an AARP member, they quoted a rate, underwritten by Foremost, with identical coverage as Progressive.  Their annual rate was $194 vs. $250 for Progressive.

I would throw this out for discussion with the following questions:

Have any members had experience with Foremost?

Are there other insurance providers I need to make an inquiry with that provide solid coverage that is fairly priced?

Any feedback would be appreciated!

I have Foremost on both my Valks..Allstate came close to the price. No other company actually beat Foremost's price here in New Jersey.

Rider Insurance is big here in NJ but Allstate was about 1/2 the price. I think my full coverage with good limits is $214/year, Rider wanted over $400

I bought Foremost right off the bat.  No agent, just an operator in the call center asking me what I wanted, no guidance as to what coverage would be best.  A month after I bought it, went to the Progressive site and plug in numbers for identical coverage.  Progressive was 50 bucks a year cheaper.  I didn't switch.  I bought the Valk later, and the dealer had an in house agent who does almost nothing but motorcycles.  Because of her understanding of insurance laws in Florida, I was able to get better coverage for BOTH bikes for about 100 bucks less a year then I was paying for one.  cooldude

Moral........ Find yourself a good agent that specializes in motorcycles.....

Found Foremost through AARP to be one of the highest priced Motorcycle insurances.

Was amazed because AARP car insurance is a deal here in the Pacific Northwest.

I have had this company for years, they have stood with me through 2 wrecks and never raised my rates, they only insure Motorcycles, atv's and pwc's and they ride!

To me that means they understand from the riders point of view! cooldude

I had both progressive and dairyland. Dairyland seems to be the cheapest that's what I have now.

I had Dairyland.  When I asked to raise my "accessories" coverage they wanted to double the premium.  I got Foremost and tripled my coverage with only a 50% increase in rates.  And since I got it through my car insurance writer, he lowered my car insurance by more than the MC rate increase,  So I got a Win-Win deal on that one.  Merkel was my next choice.  Progressive wasn't on my list.

AARP was almost $200 higher than American Family Home Ins Co. On full coverage in MI.

I have Foremost and 2 yrs ago had an accident. They were easier to deal with than anyone I've experienced. Even pd for lost wages.

Insurance company's set their rates by their claim history and loses for each state.
Rates are going to be different from state to state.
It pays to shop around to get the best deal.........

Thanks to PaleRider for starting this post.  I just renewed my Foremost insurance the beginning of this month without thinking of checking around.  Foremost was $500/year cheaper than State Farm, so I switched last year.

Called around and ended up going with Progressive for $650/year for all 3 bikes with full coverage (comp and collision) and 5k in accessories for each bike.  This is the first time in over a dozen years where Progressive was even in the "reasonable" ballpark for rates.  Don't know what changed.  Still higher than what I was paying in Colorado and Idaho, but great rates for the Peoples Republic of NJ.

Thanks PaleRider....and I kinda like Flo, she's got some style.

My friend Gordon ( Lucky 13 ) recently totaled his Interstate he has Progressive as I do as well. He had his money within a week of the crash and had another Interstate within two weeks of the crash bought and paid for with his insurance money.

That matters when selecting an insurance company.  Progressive treated me very well after my accident also.  I have previously had to deal with another larger insurance company after automobile mishaps and their unacceptable response was the reason for my switching our motorcycles to Progressive.

Yes, I do find "Flo" irritating.  I think Geico and Progressive are having an extended contest to determine who can come up with the most irritating television commercial.
